I'm constantly tired- what's wrong with me?

Lately I have been so tired. I have moments when I am feeling fine, however other times I feel so tired and absolutely exhausted and I constantly yawning through my lessons. I don’t know what has caused this; I do have a severe anemia in which I have been taking medication for the past four years. I eat a very healthy diet and drink lots of water during the day and an average 9 hours sleep every day. So I don’t understand why am feeling like but its getting to a point where am extremely frustrated and I can’t hack it. I am going to the GP next week and asking for a blood test to check the levels of iron but am seriously considering iron injections.

Are you taking your iron with vitamin C - because you need a good intake of vitamin C for absorbtion of the Iron. You can get 'ferrograd C' tablets over the counter -which is just iron tablets with the Vitamin C required for absorbtion. If you've had anaemia for 4 years and you still haven't seen an improvement you really do need to get other possible problems looked at.
You could have an underactive thyroid, have you put on weight? That's a good indicator of that. If you are a girl, it could be due to heavy periods which cancel out the effects of the iron tablets you may be taking.
It could also be your diet, if you eat a lot of sugar quickly, it'll give you a high and then be burned off quickly, making you crash. Same effect really if you skip meals.
Make sure you go for that GP's at the very least.

Exercise has nothing to do with weight! I'm thin as well, but I still feel a million times better after exercising. You need to do it to keep fit. Being skinny doesn't mean you are fit.
Yeah I'm having the same problem. During half term last week I went for a 15 min jog in the mornings, and just eating one SMALL portion of mixed veg. in a turkey sandwich helped me regain so much energy, I really don't understand how. Now that school's started again, I have no time for exercise and sometimes forget to eat so I need to keep up the exercise and veggies.

just get the iron injection. Its no biggy, and you obviously aren't taking up enough iron or something. Am sure your GP will have already done ferritin tests.
Fact is if your GP has been following this anaemia for the last 4 years, then no one including myself on this board will be better placed to give you an answer.

Are you aneamic? you might need iron tablets.
Eat some chocolate and go out for a sprint in the park, then have a cold shower the go out partying! You sound like you need some more exercise.
Hm, Try more iron tablets. If it doesnt work, you might be depressed or something psychological because you're keeping everything else in your life right.

Your a student
Hey! Warwick has just launched a cool way to deal with student tiredness - its got a whole fatigue and energy management programme centred around EnergyPods (or SleepPods) that are made so that you can get a really good sleep in the day to feel better - I guess that one idea would be to keep going on these for a week (or try the same on a sofa somewhere) and sleep only for 20 mins - it seems thats best.

The pages are good for all www.go.warwick.ac.uk/counselling/sleep so you can see a picture there too - company is www.metronaps.co.uk
