no voice

I've lost my voice, it has completely gone, absolutely no sound is coming out when i try to speak (i'm sure it has absolutely nothing to do with the loud drunken singing on the way home last night).
Is there anything i can do to get it back before tomorrow lol because i need to phone for a taxi and i need to be able to ask for my train ticket at the station. Sounds stupid i know but its a real pain.
Please help:biggrin:

you should have it back by morning (hopefully) a warm drinks normally help.

Lots of warm drinks and try not to talk for 24 hours.

I once lost my voice due to a combination of having a cold, going to a smokey club and shouting at my drunk friends in said smokey club. It took me a fortnight to get my voice back; with hindsight singing at the wedding at church the Saturday morning after the night out was not a good idea, and neither was trying to sing on the Sunday after that was also not good.

Rest your voice and drink plenty of water.

- stay warm
- don't talk
- drink lots of warm drinks
- have lots of rest

I lost mine on Tuesday (as a result of shouting, singing in falsetto, the cold, my tendency to put ice in all drinks and visiting a smoking cafe), and I could just about whisper at best. I carried a notepad with me.

It was one of the best days I had at college, 'cause I didn't have to talk to anyone, and my Literature teacher didn't ask me questions. I did get a world of abuse from teachers though. It spread around quite quick I had lost my voice. Doesn't seem they have anything better to talk about in the staff room.

You need a good strong cup of tea with lots of sugar in it, it helps with soothing and coating your throat.

The number one thing is not to talk. Your vocal cords will be swollen up, hence not being able to make a noise, and if you're trying to speak at all you'll be moving them about and touching them together and they'll get more irritated and swell up further.

If it was a throat infection I'd say gargle with apple cider vinegar (diluted - it's not that vile when you get used to it) but if it's just overuse there's not a lot you can do except vocal rest. :frown:

If your throat doesn't hurt it could be laryngitis. Or it's to do with the loud drunken singing possibly.
Just try not to talk for a while.

Gargling with salt water is meant to be useful, and don't try to talk cos you'll make it worse. Hot water with lemon juice and a spoonful of honey mixed in is pretty soothing too, my mum always gave us that for a sore throat.

I lost my voice after I went to the reading festival (too much shouting/singing I think). I just had to wait for it to come back. It came back about a day after, but it was very dodgy, and i couldn't talk properly until about a week later. I think it was because I'd ruined my vocal chords, rather than my throat, because my voice didn't actually hurt when I spoke (unless I did for ages), and I just sounded like an old man.
