Essex or LSE?

Hello guys, I'm a fresher and I study Economics with French at Essex. I got a very good IB score (39) and I'm considering applying once again... I will try Geography at the LSE since I've always dreamed of studying there. However, I love Economics and I love French, tell me please: should I go for better scheme or better institution??? Does Essex first class diploma have as much reputation as any diploma from the LSE? Please, tell me your opinion cause I am extremely confused. THX
If you get a first from Essex for economics, you're in a very good situation. LSE is a good school, but in terms of social sciences, Essex is the dogs *******s.

Go check out LSE, but don't write off Essex.
actually LSE is the second best social sciences institution in the whole world ater harvard. its reputation is world class. essex can't really compare to it tbh.

i don't mean to offend anyone i'm just being honest.

LSE is an amazing school, i would definetely look at applying there, i'd also say though not to discount Essex because as you rightly point out Essex's Economics department is excellent. I think if you got a first from Essex in economics you'd stand in good stead in the job market.. but at the same time.. if you were to get a first from LSE that would be outstanding.

Why not apply to LSE for economics or geogrpahy with economics??

I think you should definitely re apply with a score of 39 (congrats bytheway). I'd also look at UCL, Warwick and Bristol and other top institutions, as you obviously have the intelligence. Good luck.

hi folks,
from what I can see , lack of HL in maths might be an issue. to be considered for economics at top institutions you need a prove of high level of analytical and problem solving skills and good will aint enough.

essex or lse ?
hmmm, answer is obvious.

Lse...
whilst its pretty clear that lse is the top institution for social sciences, it has been running longer than essex and the advancements essex has made since its beginning have been fantastic.

tbh, if i had the choice between essex and the lse, then i would choose the latter but still essex is one of the best institutions for social science as shown by the rae and other assessments and the fact that essex has 9 professors in economics who are ranked within the world's 1000 with only lse ahead with 13 hence you will no doubt get a 1st class education at both institutions.

the only thing that holds essex back is its location and the perception that most people have of essex, i'm sure if it were located anywhere else its reputation would further enhance and more people would recognise it as a top class university.
