You don't have to be loud. Even if you're just eccentric you can still earn the repuation of being a bit mad.

Im a bit insane. Haw haw!

I'm perfectly normal and I love it.

As above, really. How do people who are described as a 'bit mad' behave and what do you think of people who exhibit such behaviour? Do you wish that you could be a bit more mad?

Thoughts are most welcome.
people who are mad, but not really mad

I knew a guy who used be "a bit mad" and have an eccentric side now and then. However, one day he went insane for the lack of love and smeared faecal matter all over me and the cell wall. This is a warning to the last poster who seemed to suggest that there is a clear dividing line between eccentricity and insanity, the two are far too near each other. Remain absolutely boringly normal and you will be alright.

People who ask questions in lectures and then mumble off and start having conversations with themselves.
There was a guy like that in my course last year...quite funny.

I think I'm already a little too eccentric for my own good.

You don't have to be that loud... you can be "a bit mad" if people go "...right..." after you make one of your usually helpful suggestions.

Anyway, I believe that eccentricity's normal. If you're motivated and original and think a lot "outside" the box, that has to be a good thing right? Insane's generally read as above the extreme...so, yeah, insane is very like eccentric, just that eccentrics are nice, and insane people are thought not to be so nice. But they're just labels for people who aren't big standard.

There is absolutely nothing worse than people who introduce or describe themselves as being any of the following:

A bit mad

A bit of a nutter

A little insane

Zany

Crazy

A great laugh

... or any variations on the above.

It's kind of ok if your friend or somebody else describes you in that way, because at least there is somebody to vouch for your madness / zaniness / insanity / whatever.

But when somebody calls himself or herself any of those things, you can be pretty sure that it's not true, and that they are probably just a very annoying person who does stupid things to get attention.

So OP, I would advise you not to try too hard to get the 'a bit mad' tag. It's not a good look.

Yeah. There's a very fine line between mad and mentally unstable.
