Getting your eyes tested...

I started my first full time job following uni about a month ago, and ever since I've been getting headaches throughout the day. I spend my entire day sat in front of the computer screen (which I am not used to at all), so I'm thinking that it could be something to do with my eyes.

Can anyone recommend where to go to get them tested? Do you need an appointment? I'm actually still studying part-time so I still have a student card - does this have an effect on how much I have to pay anywhere?

Thanks for anyone who can help, I am completely clueless on this!

It could be due to glare aswell.

you will possibly have to pay (depends on how old you are) but you might get a student rate or something (i'm not entirely sure as i havent had my eyes checked since i've been at uni).

ring up and ask to make an appointment for an eye check-up.
its also worth speaking to someone at your employment... human resources or something because if your job involves a lot of work with a computer screen you can often get money towards eye check-ups and the like.. i think you pay for it and then take the receipt into your employer and they give you a certain amount back

It's the refreshing rate of your screen. Your screen is being constantly refreshed at a very fast rate (faster than your eyes so it seems like a constant picture to you) so it's basically like looking at a light bulb turn on and off over and over again unless you have some form of protection for your eyes. I've got 0 vision change glasses with a UV-ray/radiation protective layer which I use for computers.

Oh, wow, I never knew that. Well, if its not my vision then that would make sense - I'm sat there for 9 hours a day at least without a break.

Otherwise, it could not be my eyes at all, and be something completely different - I've been feeling a bit sick lately as well so that could be related!

But I suppose I should get my eyes tested anyway so its a good excuse really.

9 hours? That's insanely bad for you.. Take atleast 15 minute breaks after each hour. It's very likely to be eye related, but use some form of eye protection when you use the computer. Buy one of those UV blocking screens and put it over your monitor.

I know, its pretty excessive, but 95% of my job is done on the computer! I've just booked an eye test at Specsavers for next Saturday. There's no discount for students but its on offer at £5.00 at the mo so I can live with that!

Until then I might look into this UV thing, I really had no idea. Thanks
