Hey, I was looking at accomidation and I'm leaning towards private as its cheaper but a lot of people say living in the main halls is the best way to socialise and meet people. does anyone have any advice as to which option is best? I'm moving from scotland so I want to be in an inviroment where I can meet new people and make as many friends possible.

I will be staying in the Queens Court building come september (when I start) which is private and I have my own kitchen, so it is true meeting people for me will be a lot harder as I won't be forced into a social environment, but I also avoid the hassle of maybe having no choice but to live with people I don't get on with which could be a nightmare.
I just see it as I will have to make a bigger effort to make friends and go out and see people, but at least it will be people i know I like.

True, if you are moving here without knowing anyone else at the uni it could be hard to meet new people if you by your self but both ways are a risk, I personally just wanted a place I could go back to without being bothered, I like socialising but I also like to just relax sometimes which people have said can be hard in halls.

Another thing to think about is if you go to halls you have to move out at the end of the year, so unless you have a group of friends you trust enough to get a house with (remember if one person doesn't have the rent money someone will have to pay for them or you could lose the house ect) then you are a bit stuck, but in private you can just stay there.

It was a really hard decision to make but my girlfriend also got into DMU so it doesn't bother me much as I will at least have her and we will have our own space
