Turning Points...

A lot of people who want to lose weight (sorry to make yet another thread on this topic :p:) usually say they had a turning point, a time when they just suddenly knew they had to lose weight and did it. But i havn't had this yet, and am generally finding it hard to find motivation, envisaging a slimmer self doesn't seem to be enough :frown: III dunno, just avin' a moan :p: Anyone had these turning points? for anything really :p: x

Hurray, someone who feels the same as me!

I've wanted to lose weight since I was about 13. I'm not obese & have lost weight naturally as I grew up but I'd like to lose a stone or so. I've put on a lot of weight since coming to Uni & I just have no motivation to shift it. I go to the gym but only once a week & I eat so much junk food, it makes no difference. I've said to myself so many times that I'm gonna start a diet & I just never get round to sticking to it.

I know there are all these ways of keeping to diets but I have such a busy lifestyle, I don't have time (or maybe can't be bothered....) to eat healthy meals.

So yeah, like LadyEnglish, I'd like to hear of any success stories & how you did it!

The turning point was two years ago when I went to see the dermatoligist for my acne. She checked my blood test results on the computer and said, ''Oooh you have very good chlorestorol, and everything else is very good'' and looked impressed. Her male colleage then leaned over to look at the results and smiled. She then asked the nurse to send me to a room to be weighed so they could establish the correct dose to give me, and at 5.4, I tipped the scales at 70kg- 11 stones!!

I know it may not sound that bad to some but it shocked me into losing weight. I knew I had put on lots of weight over the years but I didn't realise I was that heavy. This happened when I was 18. Up until the age of 16 I had taken part in lots of sports and maintained a weight of approximately 8 stones, then when I was 16 I moved college and started eating out everyday, no more exercise and the piles started piling on.

I now go jogging 5 days a week and have lost a stone in the last year... So that's my success story.

I suddenly thought I don't want to be overlooked anymore because of my weight, and hence 6 months later was noticed for my now great looks  Sorry to boast, but it happens when you feel good about yourself. I dropped 3 stone btw.

i'm kinda in the same situation as the op. uni was my downfall...i've always been slim, and even though i'm not really overweight now, i'm heavier than i've ever been. as much as i hate it, i don;t hate it enough to do anything about it, which is my fault really. i hope the motivation comes soon!

Oh welldone!!!

How long did it take you to lose 3 stones? And how did you do it? If you don't mind me asking how much do you weigh now? just out of curiosity- but you don't have to answer that.

Basically I ran most days (say about 5 days a week) for 30 minutes (somedays 15 mins in the morning, 15 mins in the evening) and did some easy exercises at home before I slept and after I woke up. I started in September 2005 (it's been over a year ) and myself/friends/family began noticing the weight loss in Jan/Feb/March. I was 10 stone and went down to 7 stone by May, which I know is pretty unhealthy, but am now training at the gym (starting Monday) to gain a stone in muscle not fat if that makes sense .

Oh and as for meals, I basically cut out all crap - crisps, chocolates, fried food - it was tough but worth it, because you gain so much energy from removing all these foods from your diet, and replace them with vegetables, healthy cereals, chicken, turkey, eggs and such. Good luck, I hope I can motivate you a little!

munchkin18, yeah I know it was very drastic to go down to 7 stone but I didn't weigh myself until May and realised how far I'd gone! I'm 5'5 so being 10 stone made me look enormous!

In 6 months  It took me a year to lose 5 stones and i still have more to go  My downfall is excuses, i think oh ill eat this now because im doing exercises later, then later comes, and i think, if i dont do them now ill just do more tomorrow, then tomorrow comes and goes and no exercises, so you see the pattern :frown: i eat the right things in excess but i dunno its like i need to actually slap my hand until i realise im eating. It's REALLY annoying lol x

aww, you're a fellow small person. 7 stone is very light for 5'5" though...i'm quite a bit shorter than you and a bit heavier!

I'm small AND overweight, worst body type lol x

Keeping busy is very important I think. Even now I hate it when I'm not busy. I used to be the same, but got out of the habit of over-eating, even healthy foods! All I did to get out of it was write what I was going to cook and eat for the next day, do it, and soon after I got used to it, and only went in the kitchen to make my meals and then leave and do something else like work straight after I eat. Hope you know what I mean!

being small is awful, weight gain is way too obvious.

Only when I checked on the BMI website and found out I was underweight I decided I needed to start gaining weight now (only found out last month) I'm hoping to get up to 8 stone after the new year, from going to the gym.

I work next to the kitchen lol so im always tempted :frown: i should really work in my room...but there's less room! aaargh lol. I do too much work sitting down and i need to find the effort to do exercises in the evening :frown: aaargh i hate my body type and my slow motabolism :p: x
