Hi, I am currently taking English A1:Literature HL and Mathematics HL which are (according to what I have heard) two of the hardest ib subjects. I am taking these subjects despite their difficulty because of my intellectual curiosity but I am afraid that when the score results come out, my score will be lower than that of students listening to easier subjects. So my question is when the universities look at your application information, do they give certain merits or advantages to students who are taking difficult ib subjects like I do? Thanks

Unfortunately not really...It's only if you were doing really weak subjects, or subjects that didn't fit the entry criteria that unis might have a problem. I mean they'll see that you're doing hard subjects, but ultimately you need to get the grades to meet their offer, and for that the subjects aren't taken into account.

Surprisingly enough, I have had the same inquiry gnaw at me for ages!

After asking constantly, i've found out that it really depends on certain factors, one of them being the university you plan to apply to. If you were to apply to an Ivy league University; then they couldn't care less if you were to take Math or English at a HL. However, such subjects are highly esteemed by other universities, so this could easily boost your chances of getting into certain universities.
