I'm choosing A-levels right now and I'm thinking of doing English Lit outside of school (self-study). I was just wondering if anyone who has done this before could share their stories, or give me an idea of how difficult it would be to get an A*.

    Thanks

What do you mean? By choosing other subjects at college/sixth form then studying it outside of school? If so, how would you do the exam?

    Very curious.

Basically, I'm doing these five A-levels in school:

    Maths
    Further maths
    History
    Physics
    Chemistry

And I'm studying English Lit. outside of school (at home); I'm going to do the exam at school, and my teachers have said they will mark my coursework.

I wouldn't want to, purely because it is a lot about your technique when answering questions and it will be hard to do without a teacher there for guidance and to ask lessons. Personally I would go with one of your subjects that is less essay based outside of school and do English Literature in school.
