DISCUSSION: Boys not caring about their appearance

Okay so my sister and I were having this big argument so I thought I would bring it here.

My sister's point: "It's so unfair - we spend ages every day with our appearance, and most boys never bother. Why do we have to put the effort in and boys don't?"

My point: "Boys don't get spend ages on appearance because we have this unspoken mutual agreement. If nobody does, then the competition is still fair. Maybe we're smarter that way :p:

My sister's point: "But its so unfair! They could at least show that they care! I for one am not satisfied with the efforts guys put in to look good for me."

My point: "Once again, we don't need to! If we know that we are going to get a girlfriend etc. anyway without putting hours of effort in, then what motive do we have to do so? It's the girls' fault for this petty one-upmanship that you do to look the best and stand out. Just be yourself!!!

SO: What are your opinions?

Hm, It's the girls who are attracting the guys (by appearance). The guys dont need to. It's like that throughout nature.. the females are more colourful and eye catching.

hehe, maybe I should have phrased it differently. She was just pointing out how much more effort girls put in to getting ready for dates, and that it was not justifiable. I'm not saying I don't care about my appearance at all ^^

I love making an effort, putting makeup on, doing my hair, dressing up nice etc! I also like the kinda scrufy look on guys - as long as they have good fashion sense, and smell nice, and look cool, I'm happy with that!

I have no sisters, but I'd agree with a previous post that it is girls who mostly do the attracting, so would need to put more consideration into their appearance. You could have complained about guys having to do the searching?

Ok so girls like spending lots of time looking nice for a guy on a date, if the guy did the same thing for a girl wouldn't the date already be over?

What's your sister getting at? Guys don't wear make up (well most guys). I'll just sort my hair, decide what to wear and check if I've got any spots.

If you're good looking why do you need to spend time making yourself look like a fanny/grooming?

Theres a reason most girls aspire to be with blokes with rugged good looks rather than metrosexuals ya know.

Well I think most guys do spend quite a lot of time in front of the mirror too, even though they won't admit it. I myself I am caucious about my appearance, but still I don't spend ages getting ready for a date... I think this way: "If you don't like me, don't look at me!" . But usually I do get stared and asked out a lot.. so I am happy with my looks

i wish my bf would spend a litle more time on his appearance. im not too keen on the metro look but its nice when a guy is clean shaven and can actually go out and buy his own clothes.

Well, it was my sister's point first that men in gneral were lousy at spending time on their appearance :p:

But I do know that it is proven that men are attracted by visual stimuli mostly, and girls by auditory and sensory stimuli.

But seriously. The large majority of Males do take pride in their appearance. It might not be obvious, but you can easily tell the ones who just don't give a **** about what they look like!

I only really spend a few minutes on my hair because if I leave it alone it looks bloody awful. Doesnt look that much better when ive finished with it but I really cant do hair. Lol. I havent shaved this weekend...I really should...But I wanna see what it looks like :biggrin:
