Whilst being quite hilarious, it is also quite worrying that this happened. It brings a sense of mis-trust to the whole concept of league tables. If an entity claims they are in the 'Top 10', perhaps you can no longer just take their word for it!

You should treat league tables with a hefty pinch of salt anyway - clearly mashing up a load of different parameters to produce a single number is only ever going to be a very rough measure at best. Quite likely there's no significant difference between #10 and #11 and many the year to year variations are just caused by chance.

And what does research assessment have to do with undergraduates anyway? - not much really.

    And the 14 universities are???

As Joinedup said...there's a whole load of different metrics they use...I didn't read into league tables that much when I went through my university process, because 'what will be will be'...and things worked out for the best, in the end...

I paid more attention to some of the alternative tables, but only in terms of being 'after the fact'...

Thats because if you put two lawyers in a room together you will get at least 6 or more opinions.
