    With the start of the new term comes the latest series of presentations and workshops organised by the Careers and Employability Centre. Here are the events going on next week that you might be interested in:

    Tuesday 3rd February 4.00pm

    CVs and Covering letters
    In this presentation, find out how to structure and present your skills and achievements to create a powerful CV and covering letter that will impress employers.

    Wednesday 4 February, 4.00pm

    Online Aptitude Tests
    This workshop will show you how to make effective use of 'Graduates First' and other resources in preparing for employer tests. You will take a test online and be guided through your results and feedback.

    Thursday 5 February, 11.00am

    Application Forms
    A presentation to explain the key parts of an application form, how to demonstrate your skills and abilities effectively and how to ensure your application makes it to the next stage of the recruitment process.

    Thursday 5 February, 4.30pm

    Professional Work Experience
    This workshop will give you an induction to Professional Work Experience; what to expect, your rights and responsibilities and professional conduct. You will get started on reflecting on your skills, values and which area of work you might want to gain experience in. (A compulsory workshop for all students wanting to take part in the Professional Work Experience opportunities such as work shadowing or mentoring.)

    Thursday 5 February, 6.15pm

    Engineering Assessment Centres
    This workshop is for students from all years in all Engineering Departments.

    • Practice some elements of an assessment centre with the Careers and Employability Centre and GE.
    • Get tips on technical interviews.
    • Have a go at the types of interview questions you may encounter.
    • Practice a group activity of the type used at real assessment centres.

    Delivered by the Careers and Employability Centre and representatives of GE Measurement and Control, you’ll hear first-hand what to expect and learn how to prepare effectively. Come along and gain as much practise as you can before your first real assessment centre.
