Hey all! I have an offer for MML at Homerton, however I was pooled so am just looking to get to know a bit more about the college. I see it has good sport facilities which is a big plus! The only slight problem I can see is that it is out of the centre, is this really a problem? In terms of traveling into Cambridge for lectures and meeting up with friends from more central colleges, has anyone felt excluded due to Homerton's location?

Not at all. It takes about 10 minutes to cycle to the centre of town.

I visited it on Tuesday (got an offer from the pool). The accommodation is pretty much all en-suite, and generally seems quite nice. The students and DOS I talked to were friendly, the food was good etc. The architecture is mostly nice, and you can walk on the grass.

Offer to do my PGCE in chemistry but havent heard from colleges yet. However do not want to live in, is this really unusual / bad decision. I want to get a flat or a flat share. Anyone else in the same boat?

I think most PGCE students live out, because of placements.

I have an offer for PGCE English but don't know what to do about living arrangements. I'll be moving over from Northern Ireland and so the idea of living with other people in college sounds nice but I don't know how practical that would be with school placements etc.?

I'm going to apply to live in college, but I have a disability that means my placements will be no further than 45 minutes away. It's difficult, because accommodation will probably be full by the time we find placements out in June/July. I do know Homerton organise lots of PGCE specific events, so you will get to socialise with other students. Also, someone generally sets up a Facebook page so that PGCE students can find houses to rent together.

Thanks! I just wish they could tell us where our placements are going to be a bit earlier; June/July doesn't leave much time to get organised :frown: but then, there hasn't really been much information about anything at all since the offer letter!

I agree! People at other unis are posting about reading lists and being told to set up a week in a primary school and I have no idea if we're meant to be doing that or not...
I'm fooling myself into believing I'm preparing adequately by trying to read most of the curriculum.

That's all I'm doing as well, reading as many school texts as possible. Hopefully they will send us something soon!

I've got my first one, but my second one needs to be rearranged because my placements have to be no further than 45 minutes away from where I'm living, and I'm in Homerton accommodation.

I got a room in Homerton accommodatiom as well. My first one is not so bad but the second is 1hr 50 mins away including two buses and a walk! I know they mentioned a meeting in the first week where we could talk about travel but I'm seriously hoping someone will be going my direction in a car :frown:

You should ask on the Facebook group, lots of people seem to be arranging lift shares already.

Hi! :hello: Nice to meet you! Are you coming from far or are you a UK student? I live in East Anglia so I'm fairly close to the uni. I'm guessing your exams went well - what subjects did you study? I took English, Latin and physics.
