Kreiszig or Stroud?!

Hi, im a first year civil engineering student and have recently purchased the "Engineering Mathematics" by K.A. Stroud, mainly because i was having trouble following some of the math lectures, and also because every living sole at my uni seems to recomend the book, however now ive got onto more difficult concepts such as "leibintz theorem (not sure of spelling) and Talylor's Therom" this book doesnt seem to cover these topics properly. Other books that have been recommended to me are "Advanced Engineering Mathematics" by Stroud and "Advanced Engineering Mathematics" by Erwin Kreiszig, each book is no less than £30 even on the net, so i was wandering which one should i go with, taking into consideration that im only in my first year.

thanks for any help

You'll have to by them for 2nd year anyway, if you have to do Maths then.

The stroud book is good. There are loads of them out there so they should be cheap but noone seems to sell theirs which can only be a good sign. Try amazon markeplaces, ebay or book sales.

kreyszig, absolutely.

Forget either of them, go for Riley, Benson et al. THE best maths book you can buy for engineering/physics courses. In Cambridge they call it "The Bible", enough said.

At southampton we use modern engineering maths by Glyn james aswell as the book by stroud. We where told that we must have access to the first one and that the second one is simply more detailed so is better for those weaker at maths but it does not cover everything so we have to have the glyn james book even if we have the stroud.
