Toning up

Hey,
Ok so straight to the point - I want to tone up, more specifically I want to tone up my stomach - just wanted to ask whats the best way to do this? Thing is, I would like to lose a bit of weight, but whenever I try and cut back on how much I eat I end up losing weight from my face which I really don't want to do - I'm not fat (well I hope not lol) but it'd just be 'nice' to get properly into shape. I don't know how to combat this because I know that you can't spot reduce fat - so losing weight from say the stomach wouldn't be a very easy option - I'm hoping someone can prove me wrong though?

Sorry this is so long-winded, and I know theres a lot of topics on weight loss already, but any suggestions you guys could give would be great.

My advice is, for overall body toning then try swimming, it definetly tones your body if you go frequently. To help more on the stomach try biking long distant or bike machines in the gyms for at least 20 minutes, apparantly it's the best activity to tone the stomach if you use it frequently. Also do crunches and leg raises to the point where it starts to ache, then leave it for a day to 'heal' so to speak and continue the next day. It will ache for a while until your body gets used to it and becomes stronger. Crunches will help with the side muscles and the upper abdominals while leg raises will target the more difficult lower abdominals

Hopes this help :]
Pilates classes.

step one: do as many sit up as is comfortable.
step two: do ten more
step three: squeeze out another 15
step four: collapse in a heap and curse my name.

If you're lazy like me but want a fantasic toned body then get Bodi-Tek Elite 2 or 3. Version 2 cost £99 but it's worth it!

I completely agree with Apricot Fairy!

Swimming can help tone the body up quite nicely...and it's a healthy way of doing it too!

Don't bother doing sit-ups, just run/bike/swim at a moderate pace for as long as you can several times a week. Lifting weights would speed the process up but isn't necessary.

Run off the fat covering the abs, it's the only way. Crunch all you want but the fat will hide it!
Lol can't believe I've only just found this thread! Usually I zero in on these ones :p: Anyway I agree with xX_T3_Xx, especially about biking. Not only is it great for toning the bum and thighs (not so sure about the stomach :s-smilie: That's best left to sit-ups, front + side IMO), it's fun too! I love biking/cycling

It's obvious. Lose weight.
If it's the stomach you want to tone most, then work as many sit-ups into your regime as possible, especially the kind where you touch your right elbow on your left knee as you rise up to meet it.

I'm not sure why but it works out your lower stomach better than plain sit ups!

Quoted for being the best advice to the OP in the thread.
