The BSB web site says this:

All pupillage providers must advertise all pupillage vacancies on Pupillage Gateway, which is a service provided by the Bar Council.
    https://www.barstandardsboard.org.uk...for-pupillage/

But I know of some forthcoming deadlines where the pupillages do not appear to be listed on the Pupillage Gateway: Selborne (06/02/2015) and Hogarth (20/02/2015) for example.

I understand that some chambers don't use the Pupillage Gateway application system, but that's distinct from advertising the pupillage.

Or does the BSB have a different understanding of "must" to the rest of us?

I've noticed this too. I was searching on the Gateway as a means to see upcoming deadlines and there were very few. Is there any indication about the amount of time they need to be advertised on Pupillage Gateway for? I.E., could they not advertise until the day before technically?

I think I found the answer:

It is a Bar Standards Board requirement that all pupillages are advertised on the central pupillage website the Pupillage Gateway for a minimum of two weeks

    http://www.barcouncil.org.uk/becomin...ter/pupillage/
So, I suppose they could advertise for the first two weeks of December, for a deadline at the end of January.

Like half of the 2016 ones so far seem not to have been up on gateway. However if not they generally appear to be on at least one of:

    https://targetjobs.co.uk/career-sect...-deadlines#Non
    http://www.chambersstudent.co.uk/the...lage-deadlines
    http://www.lawcareers.net/Barristers/PupillageDeadlines

Although quite a few of the dates seem to be wrong so caution advised.

I took a look at some of these a little while ago, I found that at least half of them were wrong, or in fact the set was not offering a pupillage at all. As far as I can tell there are very few chambers that are saying that they are definitely offering pupillages for October 2016 - these sites are just making assumptions based on the sets saying that they are using the pupillage gateway, or on what the set did last year, or that they say "we offer two pupillages every year", etc.
