Ok, I didn't know which topic to put this under so yea.

Me and my friend are thinking about doing a medical placement in Tanzania for 2 weeks whihc we have estimated to be around £2000 +/-£100 and I was wondering if anyone who has already done it and is trying to get into medicine could give me more info.

I would like to know if my cost estimations are right and if this actually helps you when you're applying for university for medicine.

My friend went to Tanzania with Gap medics last summer. She went for 4 weeks in total while most went for 2. She said it was definitely not worth going for any less than 2 weeks and 3 is definitely better as you don't get to do anyway near the amount of things you end up paying for.

Your costs are probably £1000 short looking at 2 weeks and a lot more for the full 4!

My friend did a sponsored swim & donated half to charity. She contacted charities like The Jack Petchey foundation for funding and at her work she asked her boss to put a box on the counter when she was on shift with a poster explaining what she was collecting for. Otherwise she just saved up loads!
