Hopefully this'll give other people inspiration to go back to bands they'd forgotten about. So who've you re-discovered recently, who you'd not listened to for a long while? For me, I've been listening to a bit of the Lightning Seeds, who made some quality songs, and The Delgados. I'd forgotten how good they were - shame they split up

I rediscovered Weezer, a few weeks ago. I'd forgotten how fun they were - maybe a bit samey, but some very good songs.
I found Mew this summer as well. I don't know if anyone knows their stuff, (no idea whether they're obscure or mainstream or somewhere in the middle) but they've got a good sound, worth looking out for.

Ah, good thread, it'll probably inspire me to find loads of old videos on YouTube.

I rediscovered The Lightning Seeds a few months ago. I'd forgotten just how cool they were. Their music reminds me of trips to the beach as a child... ahhh.

Recently I've rediscovered The Strokes. I know they never really disappeared but there was a period of about 2 months where I hadn't listened to anything of theirs... now I'm listening to Is This It at least once a day. I have a feeling they're going to do the IOW Festival next year. Because... I dreamt that they did. :p: Har. I'd be so happy if they did. Them and Muse.

Yeah, I saw them supporting Elbow and they were really good. I've only heard And The Glass Handed Kites, but I really like it.

Mew supporting Elbow would be heaven, pretty much. Sigh.

Yup, it was a cracker. Didn't catch all of Mew's set, mind. But what I did catch was top notch.

How were Elbow live? I'm a huge fan of theirs, but I've never had the chance to see them (yet!).

They were really good. I saw them at the Leeds Festival too, where they had a massive tickertape jobby.

Guy Garvey's very entertaining too - he's got the banter, and is just a very good frontman. They didn't play too much off Asleep in the Back, which was my only disappointment.

REM. They were one of those bands introduced by a friend where I thought 'hay this is pretty gud' but never got round to investigating further. UNTIL NOW.

Yay for R.E.M. rediscoverage. I listened to them loads when I was growing up (my father was a huge fan) but I never really listened to them when I was choosing what to listen to. THEN I found out that they'd be coming to the IOW so I did a little R.E.M. revision just before I saw them. I forgot how upbeat some of their songs were. I always thought R.E.M. = miserable for some reason.

REM are brilliant. I haven't listened to any of their stuff in a while, might set that right :p:

I rediscovered Therapy? about a week ago, having gone about 5 or 6 years without listening to them. Troublegum is such a good album.

Same goes for Helmet. I used to really love that band but kind of gradually stopped listening to them. I found Meantime on my MP3 player the last weekend, and had it on repeat for the next couple of days.

Yeah, you forget how much good stuff R.E.M. have actually made. As well as the obvious classics like Automatic for the People, Out of Time, Document etc., New Adventures in Hi-Fi is a top top album. One of my favourites.

If they're at the IOW fest next year, nothing will stop me going.

But I don't think there are many bands that I used to listen to that i haven't continued listening to. Naturally i go through phases listening to stuff on my I tunes, for example, now I'm listening to Idlewild, milburn, the long blondes, rem etc quite often. But i never usually go longer than a month without listening to something again.

I saw them in Hyde Park last year - they've still got it. Idlewild and Feeder supporting too. Not too bad a line-up...
