Not sure of the exact distances but you can download the test via limewire etc onto your iPod.
The bleep test is over 20m, so if you have anyway of measuring it out then check the size of your garden! the garden or park is a good place to do it and like healy9 said, you can download it onto an ipod, or if you havn't got an ipod or mp3 then you can buy a copy of it on ebay for about £4 i think.

The level all depends on your level of fitness! if you are unfit the obviously you will struggle, but if you have a good level or have already been training then it shouldn't be too hard. Just bare in mind that 5.3 is a minimum and you want to aim a lot higher than that! Hope this helps!

5.3 is really just a medium jog. If you can't achieve that, then you'll have issues ... just getting out of bed in the morning would be one of them!

The .mp3 format can be downloaded from the RAF Careers website.

This should give you the bleep test download.

(Can people check it? It works for me)

Level 5 equates to around 800 metres, which isnt even a kilometer (1000m). The speed at that level is 11km/hr which is a nice easy jog, and is much slower building up to that!

Wikipedia has a good bit of info on the test at "MSFT"

"David Beckham can complete this test in its entirety, which is not uncommon in football players. One Australian student Chris Elliott holds the beep test record for U18 youth. He completed the beep test in 2006 before proceeding to run another 16km."

Good skills...

Hi guys thanks for all the tips. from what you say i will be able to get to level 5.3 no probls, its so low as I am female and 26 so thats all good!!
The sheet of levels i was given at the AFCO says that female 25-29 is level 5.6! you still shouldn't struggle though!

What would you venture as an acceptable level for a bloke? I know 9.10 is the official 'pass' for the RAFFT, but I'm going for at least 12.0 before I start IOT...

(That and Tough Guy (we're entering a UAS team) should give me enough enthusiasm to get fitter...)

12 is pretty high, in my opinion. fink i did 11.4 last time only 3 people went further. to be selectable for the marines you must get 11 so for the navy that must equate as a good pass.
nurse
Anyone have any ideas how I can give this a go at home (in local park) Does level 5.3 sound easy or hard to you guys? thats what I have to reach.... Thank god I am not male and 18:wink:

I remember contemplating applying to the TA and then finding out about the 'fitness test' - still can't work out why nurses should ever have to run... you can't outpace a bomb and if you're 'too fit' you'll only be distracting the poor bed-ridden patients anyway. Management obviously have no sense of empathy... or possibly, they have a bit too much.

Hello everyone!!! Well, this is my first post and it's on the bleep test as i'm worrying about my fitness levels.

I'm currently a Prison Officer and our bleep test pass is only 5.4!! I know I can get that and to be honest, they switched the tape off once everyone hit that level. My concern is, I know the armed forces are very competitive and I don't want to look like an idiot dropping out that early, what is an acceptable level for a 25yr old girl to drop out at?

Also, time-wise, how long is 5.4 consistently running??

Sorry for all the questions!!

Hi

Dont worry about the beep test the best thing is to keep going and get fit! i am 26 and i have to get to level 5.6 AT LEAST! I think and I am only guessing that 5.6 is 800m only (SOMEONE CORRECT ME IF I AM WRONG!!!!!!!!)

Not having exercised in a while I went for a run last night, ran for 10 mins at a jog and could've gone further but I had to be somewhere so I decided 10 mins was enough to start my regime. I have a mile circuit round my house so I will be practising beating my times, should've timed the circuit last night!! My OH does the mile and keeps doing it. I think he does about 3 miles a day after work, so i'll be attempting to keep up with him.

I hate the beep test with a passion. I have the turning circle of a large supertanker, so really struggle with it. If I just put the speeds into a treadmill an run it without the turns I can comfortably get at least three levels higher than I can on the proper test.
Basically if you cant get level 8 you have problems health wise, I did it 3-4 years ago at school and everyone at least managed that. I got roughly level 14, would really like to see if I could beat it now

The bleep test is easier for children and men than 25 year old women though, as reflected in the RAF's minimum requirements.
