Basically I play guitar by myself and would like to try and put parts together.

Is there a good program for this?

I know of things like FL but I don't know if that is purely for electronic music.

Cubase, but that's expensive.
Reaper might be a good choice.

With Cubase, is it best to go for the most recent? Or would I be getting pretty much the same thing with an older, cheaper version?

FL Studio

can do anything
easier learning curve

cubase is for people who think they are too cool for Fl studio, when they're not.

I found Cubase a bit easier for recording than FL Studio, but the rest I do agree with.
