Hi wondering if anyone has applied for/got an interview for/has a place for marine biology, zoology, animal sciences or anything similar - there's absolutely no threads on any of these!

I currently have an interview for marine biology at Newcastle

Fingers crossed you hear soon - I'm sure you will Wow that's a lot of choices! Anywhere you particularly want to go to the most? I've only applied to Newcastle - there's nowhere else I want to go. I've got an interview in a week and a bit - so nervous! Have you had any interviews?

Oh no, fortunately no interviews for me, I'm an International student and English isn't my first language so an interview would be terrible for me ahah anyway I'm so happy for your interview, I am sure it will be fine!!
Had you applied for Marine Biology too?
About my choice I'm very confused because I would like to live in Edinburgh but I don't know how good Napier uni is. I'm thinking to go to the open day in March to make up my mind! 😊

I would never have guessed - you seem to be able to speak English very well! Thankyou, I'm very happy for all of your offers! yeah I've applied to Marine Biology and Zoology as a backup - Marine Bio is what I reaaaally want to do though!
I'm really not sure about that Uni, maybe find their thread on here and ask them some questions? Failing that going to their open day would definitely help - where are you from?

No and I got all my offers within 6 days, lower range offers from Exeter, standard offer from Plymouth and 240 points offer (300 point standard requirement) for portsmouth - don't know why it was so low. I put my application at the end of November.

That's odd but good, I'm really thinking about applying to Plymouth cos I've still got choices left but can't decide... Which ones your top choice?

Ahahah I assure you that my English is not the best, in particular my pronunciation! I'm from Italy, my language is totally different from English but I hope to improve during the university period.
I'm happy to know that there is someone like me who really wants to study Marine Biology! I think that we are very few
Yes I think to go to the open day, it's the best way to know more things about the uni. Anyway Newcastle seems like a beautiful uni! Where are you from? Are you English?

Exeter for me. Absolutely beautiful campus in beautiful part of the world. The degree is very geared to my interests. All the lecturers were at the open day and were very impressive and they were available to speak to, after talk. The course included great field trips including one to Bermuda, and there is the option of a whole year study abroad. Plymouth was great, another lovely area. Only one lecturer at the talk, fabulous wave pool and enthusiastic students. You could also do technical diving as a module, which was very tempting. I would have been happy with plymouth if I hadn't got exeter. Portsmouth was fine, I think probably more vocational. Lecturers were enthusiastic, but not as impressive. We were taken round the marine centre by a great lecturer, but his specialism was how marine life affects shipping and growth on piers etc which had no interest for me. I also visited southampton which I know people love but I hated it. It was very urban and the course was geared towards oceanography. I spoke to a very nice student, but she was going on about oceanography and that's what uk jobs are in. I'm not intending to remain in the uk anyway as there are much better countries to be a marine biologist in. Anyway that has been my experience, obviously different people are looking for different things.

Sounds really good! Newcastle offer Bermuda too, and they apparently give all students the opportunity to do loads of water survival courses at a local marine school for free... They have excellent research facilities too, definitely the place I want to go. What are you planning on doing after uni?

It's so brave of you to go to a different country to learn in a different language! I'm sure you'll do brilliantly
I know, there's very few people that seem to be passionate about marine biology - it's all I've ever wanted to do! What aspect are you most interested in?
Yes I'm English, I'm from just outside of Newcastle so I know the place quite well - it's always where I've wanted to go. Have you always wanted to study marine bio?

Be a Marine Biologist!!!
I would like to work in conservation. I am also a diver, so I will probably do an diving internship. There are several places that do conservation specialism with Master Diver. think I'll be moving away from the Uk, probably to Australia, but before I settle, I hope to work round the world.
i did look at Newcastle but didn't want to go up North (too cold) and I really don't want to live in a city. I'm a real outdoor, love the beach girl, so Cornwall will be just perfect.

Not really The desire to study Marine Biology is new for me. I'm just curious to learn new things about the marine world and I'm looking for something different from the usual school subjects.
In particular I'm interested in marine mammals and turtles, I love turtles!!!!
Also I'd like to engage in reserch, to travel a lot around the world and to became useful in animal care.
What do you like most about the marine world?

I'm exactly the same, I want to work in conservation and research, and I'm also a diver and really want to continue on with that. I've always wanted to go to Australia too! Definitely want to dive with Great Whites
I'm from the North East anyways so I'm used to it here - have you seen anything about the Dove marine lab? It's Newcastle's lab and it's right on the coast - they've been doing continuous research for over 100 years in all different things, it's brilliant! Where are you from?

Oh really? Did anything in particular spur you onto wanting to study Marine Biology? Hahaha, yes turtles are super cool
I'm just obsessed with pretty much everything to do with it - I love the fact that everything works together and has a purpose to create this amazing environment that's abundant with pretty much anything and everything that you could ever think of! I definitely want to go into conservation and research, there's so much to research because there's just nothing really known about so much of the ocean! I think that's another really interesting thing - that we've explored less that 5% of the ocean. It's absolutely mind blowing to think about what else is down there.

I'm from Surrey. Sorry don't know anything about Dove. I've never been to Newcastle. I was lucky enough to visit Australia, Sydney and Queensland a few years ago. In fact I qualified as a diver there, we stayed out on the Great Barrier Reef for 3 days. I've dived with sharks (reef sharks on a night dive) but not great whites. I'm taking a gap year and will be going there again, and New Zealand. Haven't decided anything firm yet.
