I am doing the EPQ at school and am not sure how important the planning log is. I have filled it in to a fairly detailed standard, I have written a short paragraph at least in each section. My school have said that this is not enough as the planning log is the main element to be assessed. I looked in to this and found that on the AQA 'guide to the production log' it says explicity that this must not be the main focus of marking?

I have also been told I need a primary source, but my chosen topic doesn't lend itself to original research at a secondary school level. Is it true that I need one, and how much will not having one hinder me?

I don't want to enter it and get a bad mark, my school hasn't had the best EPQ grades in the past, so if anyone who has done well in the EPQ could give me any tips, that would be great!

Thanks

The planning log may not seem that important to you and you probably will end up not following it, but it can help strengthen your project because it shows the examiner/marker that you can use your time well and have structured your EPQ alongside your other subjects. Also regarding primary data, it is fairly important to get this. It shows that you've gone out and got involved with your project, not just looked online and read a few books. Primary data doesn't have to be an interview or questionnaire (but these are good ways to get the primary data). It can be anything taken from the time of the event; podcasts and radio interviews are good for this. :-)
