Why can silver chloride not be made by mixing silver with hydrochloric acid?

Why can silver chloride not be made by mixing silver with hydrochloric acid?

I know it has to be made by precipitation and that it is insoluble in water, but I don't understand in terms of ions why hydrochloric acid can not be used.

Thanks in advance!

Silver is too unreactive to react with acids ... (except the oxidising acids such as nitric)
