LFC. :lfc::lfc::lfc::lfc::lfc:

Supported them always. Dad's a diehard LFC fan.

My best mates supported Liverpool and United in primary school. I ended up choosing Arsenal as someone gave me some Arsenal PJs and a hoodie. I never did like Ruud Van Nistelrooy's face either. Watching the 2005 FA Cup final win sealed the deal and so did the CL final loss of 2006 on my Birthday. At that point I knew I was a gooner for better or for worse.

No team because footballers are stinky rich and football involves betting.

Not all of them are, only premier league teams. Support your local lower league team or non-league teams if you don't want to support high wages. And you can pretty much bet on everything, sport, politics, current affairs, celebrity's ****ing babies, so you can't just single out football

There's so many glory hunters and part timers in this thread, no wonder the true supporter is a dying breed...

It's strange really. I look at it as a club is usually passed down through families, like a changing of the guard, generation by generation, so a club can sort of come to represent a family. And through going to the games week in week out from being a child to a old man, it becomes part of your life, to the point we're your happy or sad depending on how the teams doing. Being there and getting behind the team makes you feel part of the team. Football is basically a religion (ground is church, chants are hymns etc.) which is why it pisses me off when people support teams like Man U rather than the team their family passed down to them (there's one in this thread that his family supported Arsenal, a big club themselves, but he is a Man U 'fan' cos Man U beat Arsenal) I agree with you in that I can't understand how Man U 'supporting' cockneys who've never seen Old Trafford in their lives can form an attachment to a club they can't even be arsed to go and support

True fans would truly feel sad at not being able to go to matches. I'm hopefully going away to uni in a couple of years and, aside from not being away from home and friends and family, I'm really sad about having to give up Wednesday matches, and that's even with going whenever I can

Ahh a Wednesday fan. Out of curiosity what would you say about Bradford. In terms of rivalry is there much between us ? I know we can both have a tense atmosphere if we play, due to it being a Yorkshire derby. But from your behalf what do you think ? Any memorable things about playing Bradford ? I remember the JPT.....sorry :colondollar:

It's saddening to hear about how people came to supporting their club in here. Most of them seem to have nothing to do with locality & going to matches.

I see us Yorkshire lads are a loyal breed though

Liverpool.
Born in the same place + lived near my boyhood sporting idol - Michael Owen. Being that I've lived in the Mid-Cheshire region for nearly all my life, the scouse influence was a big factor. Also have a soft spot for Chester FC because it's my hometown club.

what if a person was to switch from a top 6 team to their local club or a club from 6th-18th postion would that make thema glory hunter?

also for those saying its a disgrace to support a club that your not from locally...not everyone can choose where we live when we are born?

That last bit doesn't apply to many people though especially Brits. The vast majority of us have a local football club.

These threads are great anyway. Always a touchy subject.

I know it is always controversial when people say this but I strongly support 3 teams, and I'm a fan of many others.

I support Chelsea not because I wanted to, my dad and uncle were born not far from the Bridge and were season ticket holders back in the day. I was told I would be disowned if I didn't, and when you're 2 or 3, that hits hard lol. Starting to lose touch with Chelsea because I can't get tickets anymore, the stadium is dead at home games and away tickets are always sold out.

I support Lech Poznan in Poland, because my family lives there, and everyone supports them. Poznan is pretty much a one club city, and I always try to go when I'm around. Incredible atmosphere, even with attendances of 20,000.

I support Oxford United because this is my local team, my dad would take me when I was small because he didn't have the time or money to drive to London every weekend. My dad didn't really develop a passion for Oxford, but I go with my mates very often and I prefer the atmosphere of the Football League than the Prem, no glory hunters or tourists.

I also follow Oxford City (non-league), Dortmund, Fiorentina and a few others to stay interested in other leagues.

I'm only 17 so I don't really as we haven't played you in a while. But I'd love it if Bradford came up next season. Its my last season of regular football before uni when I'll be away for 3 years and Bradford looks like a good away day!

You are what I call a proper football fan. You can't get to your team so support your local team, rather than becoming an armchair supporter. That's true fandom. And I personally wouldn't have an issue with someone like you solely supporting Chelsea, cos you have a link to them and London. I only have an issue when people support a team they have no link to, and only 'support' them cos their the best

Yeah, it's so sad watching my childhood team "supported" by millions, its lost the magic it used to have. I used to be the only Chelsea supporter at school, now it seems like everyone loves them. Stadium is full of tourists as well.

When I was about 7 years old I wanted to support a club. My dad and brother supported/supports Spurs so I chose Arsenal. My dad thought it was just a phase and I'd start supporting Spurs too. Twenty two years later, I'm still supporting the Gunners.
