Foundation Art & Design...

Hello everyone! :h:

I'm Sophie and I'm currently studying an Art & Design Foundation course accredited by the University of the Arts London. It's only a year long and jam-packed with crazy artsy experiments!

My ultimate goal for this year is to achieve a Level 4 Distinction. From my understanding, the course is split into Level 3 and Level 4 grades at Pass, Merit and Distinction. Level 3 is equivalent to A Levels, which I've already done! :colondollar:

I finished A Levels last year with A*AB grades, so I'm definitely wanting to step up a level with my work.

Currently I am just about to finish a Self Directed Project, which should determine whether I'm working at Level 3 or Level 4. Then I will move onto the Final Major Project which will determine the Pass, Merit or Distinction grade! :dumbells:

In terms of university, I'm in a really great place as I have unconditional offers from Nottingham Trent and the University of South Wales, to study design for television and film! I'm still waiting to hear back from UAL Wimbledon before making my decision. It's difficult to choose at the minute because I think I'd be happy at all three universities! :confused:

Update 01

New week, new project. My last Self Directed Project was marked at a Level 4 and I am apparently working at a Distinction standard! :dumbells:

However the moral among the class isn't particularly high as parts of the course haven't lived up to expectations, many people are getting stressed about it and in one case, a girl has left the class to do everything in her own time at home! I'm also a little worried - I have two teachers, one who I get along with really well and one who I find extremely intimidating and he manages to belittle everyone in one way or another - guess who's marking my work as my 'specialist mentor'? The intimidating one! :confused:

There is a new project too, and this time we haven't been given a word or theme to kickstart ideas - we can do anything we want (within reason) as long as it fits grade boundaries and can form a final piece for the exhibition. I'm thinking along the lines of making box dioramas as I wish to go into designing for screen - so film, TV, etc.

One thing I can relax about though is that I've accepted for the University of South Wales and I'm in the process of filling out the student finance form and looking into accommodation. I'm hoping to get that sorted within the next few weeks, possibly visiting the accommodation too so I can see what it's like. :biggrin:
