Corpus Christi Essay competition

That's annoying.

Really enjoyable although I wished I specialised on specific countries more often.

yeah it is

how many countries did you talk about? I think I only mentioned America and Ecuador tbh

did you mention economic growth?
Any scientists out there (or anyone else interested in science, the questions are non-technical), just to let you know about a similar essay competition at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge run by their student science society:

http://franklinsoc.weebly.com/essay-competition.html

Deadline is 15th March, so there's still plenty of time to enter  It's for GCSE/ AS students, but also international students studying equivalent qualifications too.
The email just says thank you for your entry and I entered the History one, so maybe the economic one is different if none of you have received an email yet.

I entered the English one, and I still haven't got a confirmation e-mail :/...I only got one for confirming my registration. I e-mailed them recently and they haven't replied, and I sent my essay last Saturday...

I didn't get one confirming my registration. Just one confirming my entry

I had the same issue before the deadline so I resubmitted it because I was worried and it turned out there was a typo on my form as to my email. Maybe they just have the wrong one that they've sent the confirmation to? If so, I'd recommend getting in touch again to make sure they have the right contact info. Hope that helps
What date do they send emails out if you did well?
Hiya, does anyone know when we will be notified if we did well? I had a look at the sheet with the questions on which said we'd be told by letter in March, but the website then said it would be by email in April.
Also, did anyone else do question 1 (the one involving quantitative easing and monetary policy) for the Economics competition?

I guess early April

Which question did you answer, for the English comp? (And to anyone else who did the English prize).

I chose Gender; not sure how good my sources/citations were - tbh I'm going off winning entries from other competitions and had to use an ebook lol

Yeah - I'm looking through last year's Newham essay comps (bit unrelated, but eh), and there's people with like 40+ citations and I'm kinda hanging about with >20 lol.

I didn't know what Ibid actually meant before writing my essay though - I've learned something, at least XD

Which text(s) did you choose?

Ohmigosh - A Thousand Splendid Suns is such a good idea! Khaled Hosseini <3

Lol - I did Orlando (by Virginia Woolf - no-one seems to have heard of it ). It's basically about Gender, so I'm hoping it wasn't too unoriginal, but people have probably done it before.

In terms of citations/secondary texts, I just did a couple of feminist/queer theorists (Butler and De Beauvoir, the perennial favourites haha) and hoped for the best.

I wrote about Butler and De Beauvoir as well! I looked at three texts though instead of one.

Butler and De Beauvoir appear to be very popular haha.

Did you look at three secondary texts? Or three primary texts? (I was put off by the amount of work that would constitute lol)

*I think* I did a bit of Foucault/other random people as well - I've learned so much about critical theory, it's actually insane.

Do you want to do English Lit at uni/(at Cambridge!)?

I looked at three primary texts and basically did a comparison. I mentioned Foucault as well but only briefly in reference to the idea that the social and political environment can have an impact on gendering someone.

Yes, I want to do English Literature at university and I'm thinking of applying to Cambridge depending on my grades obviously. What about you?

Also how did you use Butler and De Beauvoir in relation to your argument?

I had to do quite a lot of research but I loved the topic, yourself? And not heard anything either.
