Lightweight Drinker?

hey

i just took up alcohol a couple of months ago during the summer, i tend to drink every friday night though i've missed 4 or 5 fridays since then. i suppose i was thrown into the deepend because my friends who have been drinking for years or at least months ahead of me drink quite a lot, including some really strong stuff.

well anyway, my usual is 6 cans of harp and then a few pints, though sometimes i have a few vodka shots. Usually after that I'm drunk but I can handle myself pretty well. i suppose i don't really have a 'usual', i just take what's on offer, i've never thrown up, never been in a fight or done anything spectacularly stupid like stumbling all over the place when drunk... but unfortunately i do seem to suffer from blackouts.

once was durin a party, before we headed to the pub i polished off the guts of a quarter bottle of goldshlanger... a vodka and coke... and 3 cans of carlsberg, at the party... i had too many pints to count, but it was a lot, then when we went back to the house i had a couple of goldshlanger shots, another can of carlsberg and a triple vodka tea. the blackout here was pretty small, it was really just ten minutes of the taxi ride with a conversation i couldn't recall, i wasn't really worried about being a lightweight then because i knew i'd had alot.

the next episode was halloween, i had 6 cans of harp, half a quarter bottle of vodka, a few slugs of vodka and coke and 2 small bottles of blue wkd, like most nights i was perfectly fine until the conversation turned to a certain somethin which completely pissed me off... and made me very emotional, in short... i had a complete blackout from the moment the conversation turned to that issue... and the mornin... when i woke up... after i had the episode my friends said they carried me home... so from the time i had my outburst to the time i got into bed... woulda been 20 minutes or so.

but the most disturbing episode happened on friday night past, i headed out on a budget so we decided to invest in a 3 litre bottle of frosty jacks 7.5% alcohol cider each... i polished off 2 litres of that stuff while wanderin about the town with my friends, i was pretty good, i had 1 pint of becks in a bar and then 2 pints of harp in a club. i wasn't too bad though my friends say i was KOed for 5 minutes in the club... but really i didn't feel too bad, when we left the club... (i remember practically everythin that happened there) we wandered to the chippy... where i left my friends who where gettin a taxi... i was feelin grand... and my friends told me on saturday that i seemed relatively fine as far as drunken stupidity goes... but the thing is... since when i left my friends at 2am to 6am i remember NOTHING, one moment i'm leavin them at the chippy... the next i'm marchin along the road toward my house at 6am in the mornin... ****tin a brick.... and sportin a bump on my head, a bruised and cut left arm and shoulder... and a torn shirt with cigerette burns.

one of my friends never seems to stop narkin me about me being a lightweight... but i have a pretty large frame in comparison, so i'd be surprised... he himself is a heavyweight and has been drinkin longer than me, so i dunno... some days i can drink loads and remember everything. another one of my friends thinks my drink might have been spiked in the club.... since 2 creepy people seemed to be hovering around our table... and i left my drink unattended once or twice. i dunno how the bump could be explained... but another theory is that i slipped and fell... knockin myself out for a few hours... then wakin up at 6... or someone gave me a blow to the head...

it's just, i've drunk more... and never had a 4 hour blackout

am i a lightweight?

You sound about average.

does it matter..its cheaper and well being a heavy weight is far worse for your health than if you are a lightweight

Reply 3

i find it depends on what u ahve to drink...i wasnt much of a drinker until i strted uni, ok had a few with my m8ts but was never drunk and kinda knew when to stop if ya like.. but with me if i mix my drinks then i can get drunk really quickly, however if i stink with the same type of drink all night im fine...:s-smilie:

that last story sounds mental. I would actually like that to happen to me. Did you still have all your valuables?

and no, you don't seem like a lightweight - I don't get blackouts myself but you only seem to get them when you drink ****loads so just cut down if you're worried.

it just sounds like lads having a laugh if they are calling you a lightweight

Reply 8

id say those guys are just having a laugh, but it also sounds to me like youve got an inferiority complex, you feel that youve gotta be just as good or better, and maybe by your frined calling you a lightweight hes trying to send you a message to go easy on the drink

well maybe i do, but it's not about keeping pace... i just 'drink'... i'm not checking their bottles to see if i'm keepin pace... i just drink but maybe i'm just a fast drinker, they're more seasoned than me, but we'll see... i'm going to lay off the spirits for a while anyway... and i'll stick to my usual which usually seems to work out alright

thanks for the advice all

True andy_cole2, i also have a chinese friend who gets extremely drunk on very little, but he seems to be like major winters and wont accept this fact yet keeps drinking on, and its to do with how each area of the world pureified water, the chinese done something fancy, and we distilled it, and of course amde alcohol along the way and built up a resistance to it... i think, anyways that was slighly off topic

Being fair, that's not that small an amount of alcohol! I get blackouts when I drink too much, and it's scary as hell, especially if you come out of one somewhere, and find yourself unable to work out how the hell you got there, and what the hell happened (or even worse, where the fook you actually are!). Thing about alcohol is that sometimes, less can get you drunk than other times, depending on how much you've eaten, how tired you are etc, it doesn't help that the effects aren't actually immediate either, so by the time the alcohol actually kicks in, you could have downed quite a lot thinking you were fine. Just cut back a bit when you start to feel yourself losing it.
Oh, and just to make you feel a bit better, I have a friend who will be absolutely smashed after 2 glasses of wine.

yeah... but unlike your chinese friend i don't get drunk on extremely little... i just go over my current limit... maybe i'm more bothered about this than i should be... but there you go...

Personally i think you are but nonetheless it seems to have opened up a large discussion, i had a blackout once, and my god it is scary
