You can do loads of the stuff you need with it like finding out the equation for the line of regression

Look at your exam board specimen paper front page, or ask your teacher. If they haven't told you that's pretty silly; P1 Edexcel does not allow graphic calculators, so if you took one in you could get in lots of trouble. Our teacher could not stress this enough.

i am wondering whether any of you will store some programmes in calculators e.g. for solving quadratic equations and determinants of matrices. Although it is not allowed, it is impossible to check it, right?

Not impossible to check... an invigilator can look at it, and it's not hard to reset the calculator by pressing the button on the back. Anyway at AS level the types that solve simultaneous equations are banned.

At my school, they do check 'em before each exam for Maths.
The teacher must see you clear the memory [and you can't fool these calc boffins!]

I'm doing MEI Maths on OCR, My maths teach told me that it was O.k to take into the Mechanics 1 Exam , but not the Pure 1 exam.

As already said though, its the exam boards discretion. So you could try checking the website etc.
