Hi , I'm a third (out of 6) year Open university maths student and am looking to pursue a career in teaching when I'm done.

I'm currently working on my Personal development plan and need some advice.

Due to the nature of open uni study it is very unlikely that I will develop any further skills in communication/presentation (I'm an Electrician by trade so I don't really do many presentations etc)

Also due to the nature of university maths assignments I will not really develop any essay writing skills.

Both of these areas are something that will require a fair bit of work in order to tackle the pre PGCE interviews and of course the PGCE itself.

I just wondered if anybody had any tips regarding the development of communication skills and essay writing skills before embarking on your teaching journeys ?

I personally am not the most confident person at times but am confident enough to know that I can improve this over the course of the next three years.

Best to nip things in the bud early I guess.
