Growing taller

Anything I can do to help me grow taller? I'm currently 5'5 and 16 years old, so significantly smaller than everyone at my sixth form. I constantly get teased about my height and weight *which is also smaller than everyone else (45kg)*, but it doesn't really bother me, but I'd like to grow taller for myself anyway. Any ways to encourage growth?

Nothing, you'll have a growth spurt in about a year anyway. I'm afraid there's nothing you can do to physically make yourself taller, apart from wearing platform shoes, but please don't do that!

Hang from the monkey bars for hours

Joke. Im not sure there is much you can do. Don't get seriously into powerlifting, eat well and healthily.

I heard there were drugs (LEGAL obviously) that you can take which MAY work. I think it was L-Arginine but can't remember? Does anyone know what I mean?

How tall are your parents? Some kids at my school who were always short for their age had late growth spurts and are now quite tall. On the other hand, if your parents are short then you'll probably stay that way. There's nothing you can do to "encourage growth" if you've finished growing.

any tablets off the internet claiming to help you grow is lying. you'll have another growth spurt soon. don't worry about it too much

you could inject ureself with somatotrophin aka Human Growth Hormone with is naturally produced by the pituitary gland in the brain - but i wuldnt recomend it
u might be luck nd have a growth spurt smtime soon nd be 6ft 1 or smthn if not doesnt really matter

I'm at least 4 inches taller than anyone in my family - that's not always an accurate indication.

That's why I used the word "probably".

I definitely wouldn't take growth hormone unless it's prescribed by your doctor. It won't work if your epiphyses in your long bones have already fused, and it can also cause overgrowth of bone and cartilage (leading to enlarged hands and feet and coarse facial features) or even gross hormonal disturbance - definitely not something to take if you don't know what you're doing!

I'm surprised no one has said to drink milk. I was always told this as a child. No one else?!

With respect, it hasn't really worked for you...

Reply 13

I didn't say I drank it though, did I.

I assumed you did. It would seem a little foolish to ignore advice that has few negatives and might help your cause...

Hormone injections and the usual comeback to size comments of 'Well it has to even out somehow *point to shlong*'.

here is my extremely wise advice.
Just wait until you about 21 and don't get stressed or upset thinking about it. If you don't grow any taller, move to china. You will fit right in.

And it can cause tumours too such as brain tumours etc.

Um, I'm not sure that's right. It's generally better not to give any extra hormones to people if they already have a tumour, as tumour cells sometimes really on hormonal drive to proliferate... but I've never heard of growth hormone causing a brain tumour. Pituitary tumours may secrete growth hormone, though - maybe this is what you were thinking of?
