doing things you like at uni. Who has the time?

Any of you who went to uni, did you have time to read, play video games, play a sport whilst studying (getting a good grade) and also doing other things like social life?
My sister used to tell me that when she went to uni that she didn't have time to do other things if she wanted to get a good grade and socialise, so she didn't read books because she was too busy having to read around her subject, trying to get a good grade and going out drinking too.

I find that i don't have enough time to do the things i like because theres too much work for me to do ( i'm in my first year). And if im playing video games i've always got this worry at the back of my mind 'you should be doing work, you're falling behind!'

Does anyone have lots of free time?

I'm also in first year, I go to societies 5 evenings a week and still get a 2:1 or 1st in my assessments. So yeah I think it's possible to do things you enjoy, as long as your disciplined with the rest of your time.

My degree is very time consuming but I have worked out a balance. I volunteer once a week, participate in 2 societies and do a huge amount of reading outside of my subject. There are 24 hours in a day, plenty can be done outside of studying and sleep.

In first year I managed to read a book and watch a few TV series as well as meeting with friends.

I'm in second year now and I'm saving any books I want to read for the summer. Last semester I did watch seasons 1-3 of Homeland but this semester is slightly shorter so my Netflix subscription has been cancelled (despite my lighter work load).

I have to bake a lot at home but here that's replaced with making batch meals.

I do have time to do most things from home though and it really does vary on a week by week basis. Sometimes you have to choose.
I study second year mathematics at Newcastle. Last semester:

Each week I had around 18/19 hours of lectures, 15 hours of travel a week (I commute in), and 13 hours in my part time job, and lots of assignments to do weekly and mid-semester tests to revise for (as well as exams in January!)

I got an average in the 80s for my January exams (came in the top 10 out of nearly 200 people )
I also managed to watch 6 seasons of House (each season has like 20 40-minute episodes in it, and I watched some other shows as well), play video games, have a bit of a social life, see my family, do extracurricular activities.

It definitely is possible to do well and still enjoy yourself.
I'd say most people can handle about 4 or 5 extracurriculars, maybe 2 or 3 with a part time job. So you have plenty of time to do things you like.
I was pretty disciplined with myself I would study or do assignments until about 7 (because I was useless after that) then I'd go and o stuff be it watch T.V play computer games or go out climbing or clubbing what have you it's just a question of managing you time.

House is the best TV series out there, to bad they stopped making it

Not as much as I used to, but still manage to do a lot. Not as much videogaming, but I get to regularly climb.

I just finished watching it last week, so gutted it's over. I quite liked the ending though.

still wanted cuddy to stay though.
Don't like Forman taking her place :frown:
I went to uni, got a high 2.1 and still had enough time to bitch on this forum for 6 hours a day and occasionally interact with people IRL.
