Braces

So I've just had my brace put on the top set of teeth.
It's kinda hurting though. Is there anything I can do to reduce the pain? I've alreadt taken extra strong painkillers.
&& how long does the pain normally last/how longs does it usually take for your mouth to adapt to the brace?

I thought I had to wear it for 3 years, but it's only 2 years and then a removable retainer for 1 year, so that's kind of brightened up the whole situation.

My lips look like they've been injected with collagen :frown: Dammit.

Mine stopped hurting all the time after a day, I don't think they hurt much when I woke up the next day. However I couldn't bite anything particularly solid for a good few weeks, and even 4 months later I can't eat really hard things like baguettes without a twinge. I don't get rubbing on the gums much, only occasionally and for then I've got wax that I cover up the metal with. It does get better I promise, just tough it out for a while. The only thing that hurts about mine is the spring attached to the tooth in the roof of my mouth if I catch my tongue on it and it bleeds! I never seem to learn either...and if it's really getting to me, I always think 'at least they're only on the top teeth!' I wouldn't like to have them on bottom teeth too.

Poor thing. It won't hurt after a couple of days - which bit hurts? If its like an aching, then Ibuprofen or another anti-inflammatory should help. You get used to it really quickly, don't you worry.

Hmmm gargle asprin maybe? Just don't swallow it! Might help a bit. Ahhh nurofen was a life saver when i had my brace. You get used to the pain (had mine about 3/4 years) its weird though, after every visit i had a 1 hour window that i had no pain (so could eat anything) after that i was confined to soup for the rest of the week! Oooh and having a brace can be a good way of getting out of eating foods you don't like...yes..for some reason cauliflower just didn't agree with my brace

I had mine for 4 years.

When it was first put on it hurt a little, i would use mild pain relief.

And if anything is sharp on it, ask your dentist for the special wax -it really helps.

omg!!!! the wax! how did i forget about that stuff?! It was ok as long as you got it on right....can't say mine mixed with food well :s: Also if there's a sharp bit that the wax won't sort, then ask the dentist to give it a trim

Mine stopped after a couple of weeks, but if you think braces are bad, wait until you get the retainers  lol x

You should feel lucky, some women pay good money for that.
