I am weighing up the financial implications of the choice between a degree and a post grad diploma in nursing. A little background I have a degree already from 2005 in forensic science but get stir crazy stuck in a lab with no people contact!

I have an 18m old son and live with my fiance (so I am aware that his earnings will need to be taken into account).

The NHS bursary applies to both options but would there also be a way to get extra financial help ie the maintenance (living cost) side of things and also funding towards childcare, and are there any rules with regards to family members(who are registered childminders) caring for your child as I would want to continue our current arrangement with them to save any unnecessary disruption to my son.

Any information would be greatly received.

Thanks

Sarah

Hello,

Sorry for the delayed response!

In regards to Student Finance, you would only receive a reduced rate maintenance loan that is non-income assessed, and you would only get that for the undergrad degree, not the post-grad diploma (as we don't provide funding for post-grad qualifications).

You wouldn't receive childcare though us, as this is normally covered by the NHS bursary team.

More info regarding the NHS bursary can be found here:

Thanks

Hi again.

Yes, as you are on an NHS course you can still get maintenance despite previous study.

Thanks.
