The question asked for the products of 2,2 dimethylpropan-1-ol + hot conc H2SO4.

I thought this was a dehydration reaction, but the answer says no reaction and I'm not sure why. Anyone able to help me out?

Many thanks.

Try drawing the product you would expect to form and then work out why the reaction doesn't take place.

I know it's obviously too late for op but for the benefit of others. If the carbon atom next to the hydroxyl group does not have any hydrogens bonded to it, it cannot be dehydrated
