Yeah, I had it for about a year. It's used to treat infections such as acne, eye infection etc... From what I experienced, there weren't any side-effects. In fact, the effects were pretty much zilch after a few months :p:

Nope, mine didn't smell :s-smilie:

I had it as an antibiotic 'cause I'm allergic to a load of antibiotics (i.e. penniclin sp?, erythromycin and distaclor!) and didn't get any side effects which is amazing for me :-)

i've used it. i was on the same dosage as well. it completely cleared up my acne. it really does work, at least it did for me. the negative side is it made me a bit sensitive to the sun and its a bit of a downer taking them on an empty stomach. but if you are taking them for acne, then i'd say go for it

it made me a bit photosensitive, so i stopped it a month before going on holiday etc, but tended to find in the summer my spots cleared up anyway. to do with the stuff coming from the sun.

i couldnt tell any side effects apart from that. i cant remember if it did my skin much good because it was atleast 5 years ago that i was on it.

good luck with it tho

Well it better work, i really don't want to be in the same position as i am now in two months time. I've already been taking prescriptions to help my acne for a month and a half already and it hasn't done anything so this is the next step. If this doesn't work then I'm off to see a derm and i will probably have to wait months on a waiting list  Unless i go privately, but i dunno how much that costs or how you go about it!

Hi
I had it too, but it didn`t help me. Then I used Duac Topical Gel. This is just amazing and I can strongly recommend it. It really helps. I don`t know, how it works in England, but in Germany your insurance pays for it. The only problem: It may bleach your bed and clothes.

Does that contain Benzoyl Peroxide as the active ingredient? Because i use that and it can stain things!

I first started getting spots when i was about 8, I'm now 18 and they're worse than ever. You need to keep changing what you use in order to find what suits, and your body gets used to things aswell. You also need to make sure you stick with each type for 3 months in order to give it time to work.

and also, if you go to a dermotologist, there's one thing they will tell you, under no circumstances, use moisturiser. Even if it says it's for oily skin.
When i went, i basically got laughed off, and i did feel bad afterwards, seeing people with really really bad acne, whereas in comparison i probably had a couple of spots.

but it's how you feel within yourself, for some poeple a couple of spots can be a lot more psychologically damaging than for others.

The stuff works ok for me. Been on it since the summer and has cleared up acne a fair bit.

Different chemists have differing versions, my first set was normal, then my second lot looked and tasted like skittles. My new stuff does reek somewhat though...

Mine are yellow. Have taken any yet so not sure what they smell/taste like :p:

Perhaps your acne isn't that bad?

I took oxytetracycline on and off for about 3 years, and before the effects started to wear off as the antibiotic became ineffective, it was great! It really helped my skin and I didn't have any side effects. And mine were yellow too, and didn't taste of anything (I don't think anyway.) Hope it works for you!

try it for about 6 months. if you don't find any noticeable effect by then, go back to the doctors. you should have a review every 6 months though and once your skin is good, start cutting back. don't make the mistake i did and take it for years and get resistant to it and your acne will come back with a persistant vengeance! lol

I used this for about 6 months. It really cleared most of my acne up and it was REALLY bad before the oxytetracycline treatment. There are things you can't do, like use moisturisers, drink alcohol.

It did give me some funny liver thing meaning I couldn't go on it for any longer and my mouth got quite sore, but it was worth it and I'm being picky. There are far worse medicines out there than this one.

Go for it!

 I'm pretty sure you can do them ^

Using alcohol with most antibiotics is technically a big NO NO, it stops them working properly, and makes you feel sick.. It depends on the doseage of the tablets - I wouldn't advise drinking v much when you've got a high doseage. Not funny in the mornings.

My GP said don't use moisturisers as they contraindicate the effects, especially over the first few weeks.
