Has anyone applied for these? Or has anyone been on one?

Hoping to get onto the Durham or Warwick Computer Science ones.

Heya, I'm going to put this in the Maths forum for you as you should get more responses there.

You should also check out the forum to see if there's any other threads there which might be helpful to you!

Good luck, a friend applied to the King's College course, for computer science. He is super clever and really excelled in maths and physics; he loved getting an early start.

So, yeah, go for it!

Hope this helps

I applied to broad based at Cambridge, got a fast track offer the other day for Material sciences. Not entirely sure what that is but I went ahead with it

Well, you must have put something in your application to make yourself attractive!

Did you apply for a range of different degrees? I just applied for 5 computer science courses :/

Durham, Warwick, Sheffield, Aston and some other place, can't remember, think York.

i was interested in the Nuclear Physics at Manchester but eh i don't think i want to go on to do a physics degree so felt it wasn't worth it in case i was offered.

Is there any other things similar to headstart available?

Can you explain exactly what it means by broad-based? As i believe engineering is a rather broad area of expertise, it would be difficult to fit it all in.

Each uni offers a slightly different course but basically they try and give you a taster of the main types of engineering, ie. most of them contain some form of civil, mechanical and chemical. The idea is to try and narrow down your choice of what you want to specialise in.

I believe Cambridge offers weekend residentials to some of the colleges, although that's about all i know about it.

Ah, that's quite good then. Are you wanting to go into Engineering but unsure which then?

Well I want to do mechanical engineering but I think it would be beneficial to experience other types as well just in case I find something I didn't previously consider really interesting!

Not if I remember correctly. In all honesty at the time of applying I had no idea if I even 100% wanted to do engineering, it's only in the last couple of months that I'm really starting to come to a firm decision.
