I think that "Be Like That" by 3 Doors Down was featured on the theme to American Pie 2 ( again my memory is **** so I could be wrong).

UK music is not ****!!!!!!!!!! Look at the following:

1)The Manics
2)The Phonics
3)Idlewild
4)Oasis
5)Blur (older songs are still better but Think Tank is great)
6)Coldplay
7)Radiohead
8)The Music

Fair enough, I agree that most of the newer British music is ****e but you should not slate class bands like the ones above.

Fair enough that is good stuff. I really like 7 out of those 8 bands. Problem is, as far as UK music goes, thats it. There is just so much crap...

Third Eye Blind's new album is out yay!
and Three Doors Down have some brilliants tracks; personally i like Kryptonite; though 'Be Like That' is quite nice too.
Perhaps American Bands have it easier than British bands because it's probably a lot easier(!) to get signed. I wouldn't know; I'm just figuring.
I don't know if any of you know of 'Matthew Good Band'; I think they are Canadian; I'm not quite sure. They're quite good; give them a try if you haven't heard of them.

'they beam things into your head
the ghosts of your pleasure in contempt
when we were liars things were seamless
when we were wired the world was like a secret
I close my eyes now and I scream
I turn the light on and there's nothing left redeeming'

That's from their song ' Running for home'; you're free to draw your own interpretation.

There's another American band called 'Something Corporate' that are... slowly gaining popularity. One of their most famous tracks is 'Konstantine' -

'and you don't wanna be here in the future
so you say the present's just a pleasant interruption to the past
and you don't wanna look much closer
cuz your afraid to find out all this hope you had sent into the sky by now had crashed
and it did; because of me'

Admittedly; no where near classic; but the line 'the present's just a pleasant interruption to the past' makes me think.

I disagree. Some great new(ish) british artists: Ikara Colt, Biffy Clyro, Martina Topley-Bird, Alfie, British Sea Power, The Herbaliser, The Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster, Goldfrapp, Roots Manuva, Faultline, The Coral, Autechre, Lemon Jelly, Ben Christophers. There are many, many, more.

Breaking America is far harder. Lots of touring. What may be big in one state could be unheard of in the next state.

British Sea Power are a good newish band. I think that they will probably be huge next year. I should have included The Coral earlier because they are awesome.

I have not heard "Faultline" yet, what (who) do they sound like??

Faultline is a single person; David Kosten. His last album 'Your Love Means Everything' featured collaborations with Michael Stipe (REM), Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd (The Flaming Lips), Nick McCabe (ex-Verve) and Chris Martin (Coldplay). Can't really explain what he sounds like: the best way to describe it would be 'Electronica', but I use this term loosely.

Grr I think The Coral are an acquired taste. I seen The Music in Blackpool with Rob as you know Matt and they were ****ing awesome. I also went to see Idlewild at Keele who put on a brilliant show (though not a spot on The Music I'm afraid).

Oh and Lyrics, I'll get back to you on this one after I've had a think... this could possibly be the hardest question I've ever been asked?

[Counting Crows - Round Here]

Step out the front door like a ghost
Into the fog where no one notices
The contrast of white on white.

And in between the moon and you
Angels get a better view
Of the crumbling difference between wrong and right.

I walk in the air between the rain,
Through myself and back again.
Where? I don't know

Maria says she's dying.
Through the door, I hear her crying
Why? I don't know

Round here we always stand up straight
Round here something radiates

Maria came from Nashville with a suitcase in her hand
She said she'd like to meet a boy who looks like Elvis
She walks along the edge of where the ocean meets the land
Just like she's walking on a wire in the circus
She parks her car outside of my house and
Takes her clothes off,
Says she's close to understanding Jesus
She knows she's more than just a little misunderstood
She has trouble acting normal when she's nervous

Round here we're carving out our names
Round here we all look the same
Round here we talk just like lions
But we sacrifice like lambs
Round here she's slipping though my hands

Oh, Sleeping children better run like the wind
Out of the lightning dream
Mama's little baby better get herself in
Out of the lightning

She says, "It's only in my head."
She says, "Shhh...I know it's only in my head."

But the girl on the car in the parking lot
Says: "Man, you should try to take a shot
Can't you see my walls are crumbling?"

Then she looks up at the building
And says she's thinking of jumping.
She says she's tired of life;
She must be tired of something.

Round here she's always on my mind
Round here, Hey man, I got lots of time
Round here we're never sent to bed early
And nobody makes us wait
Round here we stay up very very very very late

I... I can't see nothing, nothing
Round here
(Ya) Catch me if I'm falling
(Ya) Catch me if I'm falling
(Will'ya) Catch me if I'm falling down on you

I said I'm under the gun
Round here
Oh man, I said I'm under the gun
Round here
I can't see nothing, nothing
Round here

Ayyo, one hot summer night after ballin hard
I went to the phone booth with my callin card
And called up Joel, yeah you know L
I told her come to the crib, yo mother **** a hotel
She said she was gonna come at ten
The ***** came, but one problem, she brought a friend
You know I'm not a rude brother yo,
But I let Joel in and slammed the door on that other ho.
So we was sittin in the livin room kickin it
And all I thought about was stickin it
She was mean, cause you know I wouldn't **** wit a sleazy ho
Yo we was coolin, watching some TV show
I was crackin sex jokes, tryin to get the pussy
And this ***** was kickin scripts beatin round the bush
Talkin bout rhyme for me L man **** rhyming
Cause my ****, is hard enough to cut diamonds
I said, "I hope you ain't tryin to **** tease,
Ayyo, cause Big L's quick to tell a ***** leave."
Ayyo my game started ****in wit her head soon
Next thing ya know we went straight to the bedroom
I knocked the boots from New York to Santa Fe
And that ***** burnt me like a gamma ray
I caught a cab, on 139 & Lenox
Ayyo, I took it to the neighborhood clinic
Because she gave me gonorrhea,
Yo, I'ma kill that *****, the next time that I see her

******************************** ***********

It's Big L and I'm all about taking funds
I'm a stone villian known for killing and raping nuns
Ayo I even kill handicapped and crippled *****es
Look at my scalp real close and you'll see triple sixes
There's no doubt I'm all about a dollar
I just signed a lifetime contract with the funeral parlor
This kid that owed me dough, I didn't take his life
Instead I tied him up and made him watch me rape his wife
One ***** cold tried to diss me and that **** is risky
The ***** took a swung but he missed me
So I popped off mad chunks not junk
I spit in his mother****ing face and then walked off
Once a hottie shot me with a shottie
I died but then I came back to life in another body
The way I'm living is dead wrong
I'm a devil from Hell without the tail or the red horns
Killing is fun, I'm #1 with a gun
Front and get done, cause you can't run from the Devil's Son

Fitter, happier, more productive,
comfortable,
not drinking too much,
regular exercise at the gym
(3 days a week),
getting on better with your associate employee contemporaries,
at ease,
eating well
(no more microwave dinners and saturated fats),
a patient better driver,
a safer car
(baby smiling in back seat),
sleeping well
(no bad dreams),
no paranoia,
careful to all animals
(never washing spiders down the plughole),
keep in contact with old friends
(enjoy a drink now and then),
will frequently check credit at (moral) bank (hole in the wall),
favors for favors,
fond but not in love,
charity standing orders,
on Sundays ring road supermarket
(no killing moths or putting boiling water on the ants),
car wash
(also on Sundays),
no longer afraid of the dark or midday shadows
nothing so ridiculously teenage and desperate,
nothing so childish - at a better pace,
slower and more calculated,
no chance of escape,
now self-employed,
concerned (but powerless),
an empowered and informed member of society
(pragmatism not idealism),
will not cry in public,
less chance of illness,
tires that grip in the wet
(shot of baby strapped in back seat),
a good memory,
still cries at a good film,
still kisses with saliva,
no longer empty and frantic like a cat tied to a stick,
that's driven into frozen winter ****
(the ability to laugh at weakness),
calm,
fitter,
healthier and more productive
a pig in a cage on antibiotics.

you mean specifically indie and pop? or every other genre where british musicians are among the biggest names?in terms of breaking a genre, there is no comparison.

Now wait a minute, y'all
This dance ain't for everybody
Only the sexy people
So all you fly mothers, get on out there and dance
Dance, I said!]

Salt and Pepa's here, and we're in effect
Want you to push it, babe
Coolin' by day then at night working up a sweat
C'mon girls, let's go show the guys that we know
How to become number one in a hot party show
Now push it

Ah, push it - push it good
Ah, push it - push it real good
Ah, push it - push it good
Ah, push it - p-push it real good

Hey! Ow!
Push it good!

Oooh, baby, baby
Baby, baby
Oooh, baby, baby
Baby, baby

Yo, yo, yo, yo, baby-pop
Yeah, you come here, gimme a kiss
Better make it fast or else I'm gonna get pissed
Can't you hear the music's pumpin' hard like I wish you would?
Now push it

Push it good
P-push it real good

Ah, push it
Get up on this!

Boy, you really got me going
You got me so I don't know what I'm doing
