Manx-Irish Tunnel Treaty 2015

Article 1: The Tunnels

(1) The British Republic's Government will:
(1.1) upon commencement of this Treaty begin construction of two railway tunnels;
(1.1.1) from Liverpool to Douglas and,
(1.1.2) from Belfast to Douglas.
(1.2) These tunnels will be built to the same specifications as the Channel Tunnel.
(1.2.1) This means that each tunnel will consist of two single track, single direction tunnels, which are connected to a central service tunnel.
(2) The Republic of Ireland's Government will:
(2.1) upon commencement of this Treaty begin construction of a railway tunnel from Dublin to Douglas.
(2.2) This tunnel shall be built to the same specifications as in (1.2).
(3) The Government of the Isle of Man will:
(3.1) begin the construction of a specialist train station for these trains to meet at.


Article 2: Funding
(1)The estimated cost of this line is £20 Billion.
(1.1) Of this, £8.5 Billion will come from the Government of the British Republic,
(1.2) £8.5 Billion will come from the Republic of Ireland,
(1.3) £3 Billion will come from the Isle of Man.
(1.3.1) This does not include the cost of the train station, which will be funded wholly by the Isle of Man.


Article 3: Commencement, Short Title and Extent
(1) This Treaty may be cited as the Manx-Irish Tunnel Treaty 2015.
(2) This Treaty shall extend to the British Republic, Isle of Man and Republic of Ireland; and
(3) shall come into force on the 1st of April 2015, following ratification by the national Parliament of each member State.

'Nay'.

Should the Irish ever rejoin the UK i will happily vote for this to be a gift and a symbol but i'm not convinced that 7 million people are enough considering the small proportion and air competition.
