I'm in year 12 and have been looking at universities and courses to get an idea of what I want to do and to get motivated. I'd like to stay in my part of the country, but still move out, if you get what I mean.

So I have been looking at around 3 different universities. The courses I've been looking at have been History and History/English (joint). They are all asking for AAA/AAB which worries me. I am bright, but I don't know to what point I'd have to push myself to get those grades.

I don't know whether to just take on the challenge or go to a university which asks for something I feel more capable of getting, like ABB?

I'm going to assume the three uni's you have looked at are all asking for high standard grades because they are seemingly good academic uni's. My advice would be to apply for those three, and then using your spare two choices apply for the same course at two uni's which are for lower entry requirements just to be on the safe side.

Just keep pushing yourself and don't give up. Dedicate all the time you have to additional study if needed, revise and prepare early and don't let life situations act as a barrier to you achieving e.g. if your part time job is causing too much stress, quit it. I'm sure you're capable of achieving the grades, and by applying to two uni's which have lower entry requirements it will at least take a little bit of weight and pressure off of your shoulders as you know that if you do get lower grades, the offer of a place on the course is still there somewhere else. Good luck
