For the past week I have been taking my mock exams for AS and my Sociology teacher also gave the class a 17 mark question to do over that time period as well as all the other revision we have to do for our other subjects. I am only starting it today and need some urgent help. It is due in on Tuesday and I would greatly appreciate any help.

Question: Identify and explain two reasons for the growth in single parent households in the contemporary UK (17 marks).

Thank you

Heya, I'm going to put this in the sociology forum for you as you should get more responses there.

You should also check out the forum to see if there's any other threads there which might be helpful to you!

Firstly, define what a single parent family is and include data about the number of single parent families in the UK for example. Next, identify the two reasons (should be in the book) and explain them. You could include views on single parent families, for example Murray (New Right) thinks they aren't beneficial to society and single parents cannot socialise their children adequately. Conclude with a summary and you could note that other types of family are emerging too, such as reconstituted families
