What about all the mad new winter gear that's just come out, by Roxy and Billabong? I'd like to get my hands on a Roxy beanie for one, and don't forget, even tho it's small, there's a snow-board culture over here too. An old mate of mine, in fact, from my old high-school's gone pro.

I think id rather get my winter gear from David Jones or Jay Jay's.. or even... *gulp* Jeans West.

I suppose its up to the individual really. All I know if winter time, out comes the wetty.

lol, Jeans West is cool. So's Just Jeans, altho at the moment a bit out of my budget. I'm loving this 'blazer-style' "Peacott" denim jacket at the moment, very classy and would make a great winter addition to the wardrobe (prob. is, it's $80!). I'm not into the whole 'trenchcoat' thing tho, a nice denim jacket will suit me fine I think for winter. Yeah, apart from surfie gear, I'm more into denim than anything else, I think it's the Melbournite in me.

Invest in a Tweed blazer. Will last a long time and this winter very chick and will keep you warm.

Judging by the results here, altho it's still early days to decide the winner in ukl.

BTW, thanks for that tip, Everdawn - I was actually gonna buy a rose/pink tweed style one the other day, whilst shopping with a friend after work, but I didn't have the guts. Need to see more people wearing em b4 I do.
Quicksilver is much better than Billabong i reckon

saying that my Quicksilver wallet has fallen appart :frown:

got a few clothes from both brands despite living in the furthest place from the sea in the UK

THAT'S the way! Good on you, you're obviously not such a 'sillynarb' after all, but a trendy, in-the-know ukl member (and probably student, like many of us here). It's the spirit that counts. Yeah, I'm definitely a Roxy gal (girl version of Quiksilver for those who have just tuned in) if I had to choose btw the two.

That is the question...

I personally prefer roxy althoug my billabong floral shirt still looks brand new whereas my roxy black bottoms have ripped slightly where the rope to tie 'em are...

O'neill, mambo, oxbow and rip curl make some nice clothes as well.

And to whoever said there isn't a surf culture in the UK, there is but obviously nothing to compare with australia. Just visit cornwall or the coasts of wales in the summer....

I want to move to australia when older...I love the sun, sea, sand n surf. I hate it over here in the winter!

Hmm. Quicksilver or billabong.

I have way too much of both, but i find billabong hoodies take a beating fairly well (fallen off bikes etc onto dirt jumps when wearing one and its still in fairly good condition).

For the Aussie chickababes (or any UK surfie clothing fans too )

Personally I'm a huge Roxy fan, currently saving up for an awesome pair of back-printed Roxy jeans I saw the other day in SP - I know it's wrong, and should be concerned with a great deal many other more important things, but Roxy is just so cool. I used to be more of a Quiksilver/Billabong gal, but I'm thinking things have changed, even if ever so slightly.

roxy is soo much nicer

Lol, I know! With me, it's like, where to start? Do I start with the history of when I was still in Junior High and bought my first Roxy school-bag after a few ice-creamery shifts, or get right into it: belt, sox, hmm, what's she wearing today, a cardi - and for those warmer months, a scarf - tho, oh, what a traitor, she wears a billabong beanie! Just jokes (except the cardi, I am actually wearing a Roxy one), but on a kinder note, it's a lot easier and cheaper for us Ozi's to get our hands on Roxy/Billabong/Quiksilver gear.

I shall begin with the history of Roxy...

ROXY

THE HISTORY

Roxy, Quiksilver's junior girl's line, is dedicated to active living and the extreme sports lifestyle. The line, which is designed by Dana Dartez is created with the young girl in mind. Roxy prides itself on their connection to the junior customer, progressive yet embracing all elements of life. The clothes range from basic surfwear for sport and style to vintage inspired, forward sportswear. The Roxy girl is involved in beach sports and snow sports and demands a girly fit and functional wear.

The leading brand for active girl's, Roxy, was launched in 1991, firstly in Australia, with the introduction of swimwear. The success of the first season was reflected in a sales volume totaling $1.1 million. In 1992, the following year, Roxy moved into sportwear by introducing junior denim and snow wear into their expanding line.

In 1993, the Roxy logo was born. The heart shaped crest, a feminine version of the very recognizable Quiksilver logo, was created to encompass the soulful, spiritual vibe that defines Roxy. The most significant innovation for Roxy, to date, was the birth of its signature boardshort, introduced in the same year. The boardshort, inspired by the women's outrigger team and the women's surf team in Hawaii, was the answer for active girl's who were buying men's shorts to achieve the same flexibility and fit that every athlete demands.

1994 marked a turning point for Roxy when swimwear was reintroduced. The beginning of the Roxy Boardrider's Team was created with the sponsorship of 1994 Surfing World Title Champion, Lisa Anderson. In 1995, accessories and eyewear products, new categories to Roxy, were layered into the line enhancing an image of achievement and innovation. Also, in 1995, the first annual Quiksilver/Roxy Women's Pro Surfing Event took place on the north shore of Hawaii, on Sunset Beach. Roxy sponsors the final stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Champion Tour, which continues to be the most dynamic and exciting segment of the tour.

In the spring of 1996, Roxy made its fashion week debut at the Girl's Rule Show in New York. Footwear and watches, two new categories, were added to the Roxy line. Roxy was nominated for The California Rising Star Award recognizing design innovation and excellence. A national advertising campaign was launched.

In early 1997 Roxy opened it's first freestanding store in Hawaii. Teenie Wahine, a children's line targeting girl's 7-14 years old, was introduced in Spring 1997. Roxy designers were honored with a nomination for The California Designer of the Year Award.

1998 marked a year of innovation with Roxy’s first fragrance, "Hula Scent" and surf wax called "Sexy Wax" which has the same scent. Created by Roxy surfers, Hula Scent is combination of scents including offshore breezes coming from California citrus groves, tropical Hawaiian florals, the salty-sweet smell of the beach and the light woodsy smell of a piece of driftwood. Utilizing these four keynotes enabled "Hula Scent" to encompass all elements of beach life.

Roxy accessories division boomed in 1999 with jewelry, bags, backpacks, travel accessories and a full line of footwear. Roxy room was created at the end of the year giving Roxy girls everything they need to live the Roxy life including bedding, lamps, posters, and other accessories for a girls room.

The millennium marked a year of change and growth for Roxy with a new designer Dana Dartez, formerly at Sugar, a second free standing retail store in South Cost Plaza, and a new line of Beauty products. Beauty Supply which launched Spring 2001 includes a wide range of products such as Sparkling Body Butter, Tropical Body Mist, Happy Hair detangler spray, Tropical Body Lotion, Fun Wash facial scrub, Soothing Body Gel, All Over Sparkle Gel and Lip Sparkle. Each product promotes serious skin care in the most fun and approachable way possible. Roxy has also created a new fragrance, "Roxy Love" scheduled to hit stores in time for Holiday 2000. Roxy will continue to develop new products into the Roxy Beauty Supply line including glitter and shimmer products, lip color and eventually cosmetics.

Roxy continues to grow its line by practicing its proactive, progressive style of dressing active girls for all facets of life. Roxy sponsors surf camps on the east and west coasts, a stop on the Association of Surfing Professionals World Champion Tour in Hawaii, and two amateur surf contests in Southern California, the Wahine Classic and the Capitola Classic. Roxy remains active with store promotions and autograph signings by team riders.

So for whoever said that Roxy's really two Quiksilver logo's put together in a heart shape, full marks

Surfwear appears to be doing well overseas I see... I was merely asking other Aussies on their thoughts of Roxy plus Billabong, but good to see others from other countries (of course, namely UK) can relate

Anyway, for those interested in increasing their surfwear knowledge, I have done some research for you:

There are 4 Aussie brands currently selling our 'surf dream' (call it what you may) to the world. Quiksilver - a long standing industry fave, according to Overboard + Jetty Surf stores across Oz - has created the 'complete surf experience' (not my words!), merchandising streetwear, accessories, eyewear, watches and of course wetsuits. Roxy, Quiksilvers women's line, has made everything 'suddenly sexier', with bikinis (very true acully, I own a Roxy one and it goes off, uh, in a good way...for Brits who don't get Ozi lingo) and accessories fast on their way to cult status. Mambo, the 'comedians of cool', have transplanted their Oz sense of humour into gear that's edging out the big guns. And lastly, Billabong, who've recently launched a 'funky new Winter section, including scarves, beanies and gloves' to their collection.

All sold internationally, they're Aussie brands at the crest of the wave (go us!)
