Is this sad?

Is it sad to eat lunch on your own?

I was eating lunch on my own on friday as my friends have lunch earlier, and eveyone was glaring at me [so I kinda glared back] as if I was doing something wrong. I don't have a problem with this but is it considered sad or was I being paranoid on that one friday?

hmmm................!

i think people assume you don't have any friends; though have to say i've had to do that on occassion. when i'm with my friends and see someone on their own, i used to want to invite them over.

Yeah, basically means you're a loner..

Nope. I bet the people glaring at you were the ones who always have to walk in the middle of their friends or sit in the middle of the group in the cinema so they somehow believe that they're the centre of popularity.

on work experience i ate lunch on my own for the first few days...in fact all but 2 days. it sucked i got bored out of my ars. then i decided to just eat in the office cos it was better than eating on my own. its not sad though i mean i found it boring but if there's a reason besides having no friends i think its permissable :p:

Thats so true! But I've only just noticed it this once and I've been having lunch on my own on most fridays since September! I'm so aware arent I?!

Why should it be sad? You don't have to be with your friends all the time just to try and give the impression to others that you're popular. Anyone who's going to judge you a loner on the basis that you ate lunch on your own once is clearly jumping to absurd conclusions, and is likely one of those obnoxious people who are so obsessed with reinforcing a belief in their own popularity. Of course it's nice to eat with your friends, but if circumstances don't allow it, it's not indicative of your social status if you don't.

No its not sad. I often eat lunch alone for whatever reason and I have never had anyone accuse me of being 'sad.' Eating alone can also be quicker, as there is no talking, so its great for when you are in a hurry

Hmmm, i've done this for the past 5 years, didn't know it was considered as sad. So it's sad to consume food when you are not in the company of people? Why would people take this seriously? I think that's hilarious. :s
