I wouldn't bother looking up your interviewers. It's not a good idea to try and pretend you're interested in their research areas at interview cos it'll just look like you're sucking up.

Reply 2

Hear hear. Besides; even if you show interest, they will probably have so much knowledge on it than any research you do will just embarass you...

Oh no - I wasn't intending to start looking up research interests etc - I know very well it would be ridiculous to bring those topics up because I'll probably know a tiny, tiny fraction of what they'll know! However, my interview is for Natural Sciences so it would be nice to know if they were Physics/Chem/Bio (or even Maths perhaps?)!

Ah, ok. It will probably tell you a bit about him on the website of the college he's at.

If you can' find his details then it is entirely possible that he is a Ph.D. student.

Reply 6

Are PhD students often used for interviews? And is this a good thing, or a sign that they don't think you deserve a 'proper' interviewer, so to speak?!

Reply 7

Graduates often interview people with directors of studies, not on their own. But it is pretty common.

Reply 8

Graduates tutors = cool! You can just have sooo much more banter with them.

Bob Dillon? (lol... never gets old)

He is my Advanced Physics supervisor. He's cool. His status at the uni is kind of complicated, I guess he is closer to a grad student than anything else.

Yes MissSurfer, how can I help you?

Hahahahahaha.

Beat me to it! He supervises my friends, they like him. Why's his status complicated?
