Hi, Iv'e been given the choice whether to do D1 (decision) or S2 (statistics) next year for A2? Which one is easier for most people?
I heard it was D1 was easier, is this true?

Decision maths is about algorithms and optimal solutions. In my sixth form we always do it for AS, and I'm more or less the only one who enjoyed it last year. It's reasonably easy, however it's mostly based on accuracy marks instead of method marks, so a small mistake can cost you a lot in the exam.

D1 is very abstract maths as everything in it apart from arithmetic is completely new to you. although this only makes it challenging initially when you have to come to terms with all these different algorithms and methods of doing things, it is rather simple once you get the hang of it. The challenge is having the patience to take time and ensure you haven't made a mistake in your working, where you will lose a lot of marks for making even the smallest mistake (as it messes up everything else in the question and you wouldn't realise until it is too late).

i haven't done S2 but i'd say D1 would be considerably easier.

I'm taking S2 and it's alright, some bits are tricky. but I've never taken D1, but I guess D1 will be easier because my friends taking further maths who did both sad S2 was harder, but D1 was more boring (somehow o-o)

I'd say D1 is easier to a certain extent, though it's easy to not get top marks through tiny mistakes in the exam, but it can be quite interesting and is definitely different to the other types of Maths modules.

I think you're more likely to find S2 useful in the long run, if you ever have a use for it.

It's all about graphs, algorithms and definitions.

I'm doing S1 this year and I find it OK (not too difficult and not too easy), oh btw I already finished the book
