Just....can't...get up!

I am having problems on the sleeping pattern front; I just can never seem to get up before 1pm .

It is really starting to annoy me, because it completely ruins my day. For example, I will plan to do something for tommorrow, but this thing will require me to wake up at 7-8am. I sleep at 12 and then wake up at 1pm :s-smilie: - my day is then ruined.

Even if I go to bed early I still wake up at a ridiculous time. :frown: I would set my alarm for lets say 7am, it will go off; then I will be like "10 minutes" - 30 minute passes; I would then be like "10 more minutes". Before I know it, it is 1pm again

I have woken up early before, (for some tutorials). The problem with this is when I get back from uni, my body is absolutely knackered. So I end up falling asleep at 7pm and waking up at 1am.

So, either way I am buggered. If I wake up early, I sleep early. If I sleep early, I wake up late. If I sleep late, I wake up late.

Any tips on how to improve my sleeping pattern will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hey,

I've got a similar problem. I am always tired and could go to sleep anytime of the day. And like you could sleep till 1pm easy peasy, even after an early night.

If its your actual sleep pattern that is bad tho, you probably just need to get back into a routine.

Try some herbal sleep tablets for about a week but take them the same time every night and try and wake up the same time every day, so your body gets used to it. Then gradually cut them out.

Dont know if this will help you. But you should probably see your doctor for some advice anyway.

Hey, I have the same problem as you do. It's really hard for me to battle it too.

I have found out several thing about sleeping. Firstly, if I set my alarm early (like for 07:00) and then try to wake up but fall asleep, I end up sleeping until 12:00-13:00. But if I don't set my alarm at all, I end up waking up at around 09:00-10:00.

Another thing is, if I do not feel like sleeping, and I go to bed at 22:00 or 23:00 I will end up turning around in my bed for an hour or more. Wasted time.

The answer to waking up at 07:00 is going to sleep at around 22:30, regularly.

If you can't go to sleep at 22:30, what you should do is not sleep for a night or sleep only 2-3 hours. Then go to sleep at around 20:00-21:00 next day (to make up for sleep-debt). Then wake up at 07:00 sharp. I found that this works when my sleeping pattern gets distorted (like when I sleep between 04:00-13:00). It takes some motivation to get through a day without sleeping though.

As for waking up, a loud alarm clock (I have found that the best thing to do is set my computer to play music, check out some alarm clock programs around, there are good ones and if you want to PM me and I'll point them out to you) is the best. Google for alarm clock on PC. Then set it to play some lively tune and that wakes you right up. (that is provided you have a computer in your room).

And then you just have to do your best not to get back into bed.

I see. Thanks for the advice

As for not setting my alarm clock, I am just scared that I will oversleep if I do that.

everyones problem.

Indeed. I am always late for early lessons because of my poor sleep pattern.

Out of interest what subject do you do?

If its arts based and means you dont always have an early start, that may be the problem. At home I found it really easy to get up at 7 every day for school, but at uni I find it really hard to get up only a few days a week at that time.

Comp Sci with physics, I am doing a foreign language as well. So getting up is absolutely essential if I am to get all my work done.

Sometimes, when I definitely want to be up early I set two alarms. One is my normal alarm clock, then I set the alarm on my phone for about 10 minutes later and put it on the other side of the room so I actually physically have to get out of bed to turn it off, and if I sleep through the first one then the second one will hopefully wake me up. Then you have to use your willpower to not to get back into bed, but hopefully once you've got up to turn the other alarm off it will be easier for you to stay awake! Hope this helps!

Just force yourself to get up. Seriously, don't make it seem like an impossible task because it isn't.

lol I used to have the same problem.

I have to set 3 different alarm clocks to wake myself up. The last one is the loudest and the one that I put the furthest away so I have to get up to switch it off. The second is my, "get ready to get up" alarm and the first is my, "here we go again" alarm.

Try not to over eat before you go to bed, or before 8pm because at night your body metabolism slows down. Drink plenty of water and lay off the junk food a little (if you eat lots of it).

Or get married and share a small bed :p:

lol I did that once. I found myself getting up, shutting the alarm off, then going straight back to my bed and sleeping. What a joke.

Yeah admittedly I've done that too

So have I. :p:

I suffer from the same problem, to be honest -- sometimes I have to get up at 7.00 to get to a lecture or seminar at 9.00, and other days I have absolutely nothing at all (and hence can sleep in if I wish). The most successful tactic for me so far has been the 'have your alarm clock a distance away so you have to get out of bed to switch it off' trick -- but I still absent-mindedly just get up, switch it off, and then just get back into bed. :banghead: Aaarrgh!!

get an alarm clock with a 'snooze' function. so that it goes off, you turn it off. then 5 mins later it goes off again and 5 mins after that- again.

that should get you up
