Most immigrants are of working age and reduce the dependency ratio, especially as people migrating from the UK are older. So the average age is brought down.
There are push and pull factors which make the UK and attractive destination, and so many immigrants come in search of work and study. If you also consider social policies such as marriage tax breaks etc and child benefits, immigrant have incentives to start families and in turn produce the next generation of workers and rise the fertility rate

Migration is a subsection of demography. If you were to speak of population changes or changes in the dependency ratio, there would be your golden (and probably only needed) opportunity to talk about migration

Okay... thank you.
I really hope migration foesnt come up

I'm re-sitting this (A2 student) and just be thankful this won't be last year's paper, where one of the questions was specifically about the reasons for and effects of an ageing population :P
Stupid migration. Also - Plan how the feminist view on the family can be criticised (6marks)

Functionalism: NHS, helps families perform functions better
Marxism: state pensions show that bourgeoisie are concerned only for money
Feminism: familistic gender regimes: maternity leave to care for next generation of workers (Marx-Fem viewpoint) and individualistic such as Divorce Act allow women to leave abusive partners.
New Right: CSA ensures male breadwinner role is preserved. Despise welfare as it creates culture of dependency.
New Labour: encourage nuclear family but are accepting of lone-parent, gays etc. allowed for civil partnerships and gay adoption, so a growing family diversity. Also worked on a policy called New Deal to reduce welfare benefits
how would you structure a family essay

1) women like to live with men and be housewives
2) family life is more symmetrical
3) women were oppressed before capitalism
How would you answer the question 'how do state policies affect the family?'
