Health & Social Care Level-3 NVQ

Anyone on here that has completed one? I'm looking for anyone that would be kind enough to discuss the practical elements of it with me.

I'm exempt from funding because I have a psychology degree and employers refuse to allow me to take one if I pay myself. This means because of my degree I am forever condemned to the lowest pay bands.

I currently work for an agency so I work all over the country as a temp in literally every area of care imaginable. I'm wondering if I start an NVQ-3 myself exactly how many times will I need to have an assessor come and observe me? If it's less than 10 I guess I could try to burden a regular client with a single piece of my assessment each but will probably get into trouble at work.

Hi, I have just completed the Diploma Level 3 in my work place as a Support Worker and I was only observed once but it was a long observation covering a lot of different areas from manual handling and personal hygiene to medication administration. I would discuss it with the clients and your work. Your employers do seem to be being harsh. As for being condemned to the lowest pay bands you could pursuit more through your psychology degree by doing a masters or other specialising . Also you could become a nurse by doing another degree but without the tuition fees this will help. It is up to you but you have loads of options.
One thing to bear in mind is that the Diploma (used to be called the NVQ) involves undertaking a lot of short questions rather than less questions and longer essays so I found controlling the amount I was writing quite hard. This may be similar for you as you already have a degree.
I hope this helps a bit- feel free to ask me any questions
If your funding it yourself then I cant see why work would have an issue as it improves care you deliver to service users, what area are you from ?

I'm from Newbury - Berkshire. In all honesty the care industry actively tries to recruit the lowest qualified people possible. I've worked on secure mental wards with people from Nigeria that can't speak English and have previously worked as bakers whilst people with masters degrees and nursing experience have been turned down... Just an example.
