UCL Summer Challenge 2015 - Ancient Lines, Modern Minds.

UCL Summer Challenge is a programme of subject specific courses for Year 12 student attending state schools in or near London, whose parents have not been to university, and who are academically high achieving.

Have you ever wondered how the themes that influence our modern day culture came to be? How did the ancient way of thinking impact the way directors and producers work today? This course will look at Classics and its reception in art, concentrating on Greek and Roman literature in film, theatre and music. The classes will include lectures, discussion-led sessions, film screenings, a visit to the Warburg Institute (founded to further the study of classics), a stage-based seminar and student presentations. No previous knowledge of Classics is required.

What are the benefits of taking part in Summer Challenge?
Summer Challenge is an impressive achievement to include on your UCAS personal statement. As a Summer Challenge participant, you will develop your independent research, critical thinking, public speaking and academic writing skills - all essential for university. You will also gain a detailed insight into the UCL student experience and the range of degree programmes on offer, and have reading access to the UCL libraries until mid September 2015.

Furthermore, Summer Challenge participants who complete the programme will have the chance to apply for a space on our personal statements clinic in Autumn of Year 13 and the opportunity to apply for the UCL London Opportunities Scholarship, worth £4,000 per year of undergraduate study.

When and where?
Summer Challenge runs for six weeks at UCL's campus in Bloomsbury during June and July, on either Tuesday or Wednesday evenings, from 4.30pm 6.30pm.
