Research Assistant or PhD related to Psychology?

Hi there.

I'm currently completing an MSc in Research in Clinical Psychology, and am considering the next step to take after. At the moment i'm leaning towards trying to apply for a DClin in a few years time, but I'm unsure which would be more beneficial for me.

As far as I know, the best options for me currently would be to apply for a Research Assistant position or a PhD - but I don't know which one would be more appropriate. What I wanted to ask, is obviously a PhD involves a lot more generally, but are they essentially quite similar? I know this may sound like a super stupid question, but I figure if they are, then a PhD would look better possibly in long term, especially if I have to wait a few years before applying for the DClin anyway (as I haven't got the relevant experience as of yet).

The only other problem I'm having right now is that I'm a bit fed up of education, so I'm not sure if a PhD would be the best idea, but then I have completed my BSc and MSc at the same University.

Any advice would be appreciated!
