Hi all,

Durham Medical Society here! We noticed the lack of offer holders thread for Durham, so decided to make one for all of you!

We're here to answer any questions you might have and hopefully give you an idea about what it's like to study at Durham!

We've also set up an offer holders group for you on Facebook, which can be found by searching for "Durham Medicine Offer Holders 2015/16" or by clicking here!

Looking forward to hearing from you all soon!

Lots of love,
Durham MedSoc x

Hello. I've not heard back from Durham yet, does that mean I've probably been rejected?

Hello!

Not at all. Offers are given out over the course of a few weeks, so don't worry! Hearing nothing at this stage is better than getting a rejection, so it's just a matter of waiting to hear back.

Good luck with your application!

Best wishes,

Hi,

I would take what workroom has said with a pinch of salt. Durham usually don't give a specific date for giving out offers, unless somehow they've confirmed this over e-mail privately to workroom. (doubtful)

Just be patient and don't panic!

Good luck everyone. :-)

Lots of love,
Durham MedSoc x

How is studying at Queen's Campus? Is there still a vibrant student life even though the campus is quite a bit away from Durham+Newcastle? Are there plenty of bars and clubs to go out??

Hello
Although it is a small campus there is a great student community. There is a night out every Tuesday in Stockton, and every other Thursday in Middlesbrough that a lot of people go to, and your college and the MedSoc organise bigger nights out to Newcastle/Leeds and other places with coaches from campus and back. Also there is a free bus service to Durham that runs until about 2am on Friday and Saturdays so you can go to the other college bars and various clubs in Durham and get back easily.
Hope this helps

Hi everyone

I know everyone is anxious waiting for offers so I wanted to give a bit of official information for you! I contacted our Medical School Admissions and they said they're expecting Durham offers to be released from 24 March (next Tuesday). Everyone will get a decision on their application by 31 March.

Hope that helps put people's minds at rest a bit!

Hiya!

Studying at QC is great because we have a really small cohort. All of our lecturers know us by first name, and we get a lot of support that you might not necessarily get in a larger cohort! It's nice that we get a small cohort here, and then get to move to Newcastle in fourth year (or third year if you wish)!

In terms of nights out, there is always plenty to do. As Lemony said above, we have two student nights, every Tuesday and every other Thursday. Both of these are exclusively for Durham University students, so you'll go there and know pretty much everyone in the club! Also, MedSoc, PharmSoc and your college JCR will organise city trips once a term. So you'll end up heading to Newcastle/Leeds roughly 2 or 3 times per term if you wish! A lot of people also take advantage of the free bus to Durham at the weekends, and head out there. Some also opt to go to Middlesborough at the weekends, it's personal preference really. There will also be various other quieter evenings in your college bar, such as acoustic nights which run quite frequently!

To conclude, don't worry, there is plenty to do!

Good luck with your application. :-)
